⌜ chapter six ⌟
"Hey, question." Jay looks up at Emmett as he rounds the front of his silver Jeep, and he smirks.
"I'm not surprised. You never shut up the whole way over here." He leans against the passenger side door as he looks down at her, and she narrows her dark eyes at him. "Question?"
"Will you teach me how to drive?" She asks, and he shrugs.
"Sure."
"Really?" She smiles.
"In Carlisle's car...or Edward's."
"I thought we agreed that it was a bad idea to let you on the road." Stefan says as he walks over to them in the school parking lot, and Jay jumps forward and covers Emmett's ears.
"Shh. What the bear doesn't know, won't hurt him." The little brunette says as she looks over at the Salvatore boy, and Emmett's booming laughter attracts the attention of nearby students.
"I'm glad you don't seem to have a problem making friends in this town." The older boy says, and she smiles up at him before letting go of Emmett.
Jay sees Laura just past Stefan, snickering with her friend as they look at the three vampires. She can't help herself as she starts listening to their conversation.
"...guys can she possibly attach herself to?" Laura questions, and Jay gets visibly angry as she glares at her, causing both of the men with her to look for what caused it. "She wasted no time at all getting all touchy-feely with Emmett."
"You were right. I feel so bad for Paul..."
Wordlessly, Jay brushes past Stefan and heads for the front steps of the school, needing to get away from the gossiping girls before she gets any angrier than she already is. Stefan sighs as he watches her go, and then he looks back at Emmett.
"What the hell was that?" The burly boy questions.
"One of those girls has been giving Jay a hard time for months. She likes Paul, but he doesn't like her." Stefan explains.
"That's the wolf that got territorial when we were after Victoria?" Emmett asks, and he nods.
"His relationship with Jay is...complicated. Anyway, Jay never really cared much what she said before, but I think her heightened emotions are making it harder for her to ignore. I'm worried about what'll happen when she snaps."
"You really think that she will?"
He takes a deep breath as he nods. "I think there's always that possibility."
