It's dark...
You weren't quite sure when you came into consciousness, but everything felt hazy. Darkness surrounded you, squeezing against your sides, embracing you. It felt like something was missing... but your thoughts couldn't focus on what exactly made you feel so empty as your eyes were suddenly hit by light. You felt blinded, a small wail leaving your lips as cold air hit your tiny body.
There were hushed whispers around you as you scrunched your eyes closed, but you hardly paid attention as you were swaddled by blankets, your eyes slowly opening again to meet those of the man holding you.
"Silver eyes like crystals and stars, and hair the color of the night..." the man murmured, staring down at you. This must be your new father then. You took note of the headpiece he wore.
A king...? you wondered absently. A name tugged at your mind, bringing your thoughts to crimson hair. Hiryuu... where's Hiryuu? Where?!
You squirmed, desperately trying to seek your other half, the person whose side you were meant to forever stay by. The cries of another baby met your ears, freezing you in place. Your father placed you down on the bed, reaching out to take the other baby. A few seconds later, its tiny body was nestled against yours. Wiggling in an attempt to turn over with your now nonexistent muscles, you caught a flash of crimson.
A tear fell from your eyes, followed by several more. Your tiny fingers extended outward, curling around the fist of your new baby sister. Your dear brother Hiryuu's reincarnation. Relief flooded you as you huddled closer. Hiryuu truly was eternally by your side. You hadn't returned alone. Even if the girl was not the same person as your brother, she was just as precious. She held his soul, had his hair, and those beautiful eyes. You would protect her like you always had for him. That was your duty, and that was your choice. It always would be.
"(Y/n)," King Il said, catching your attention. You involuntarily cooed, giving him a curious gaze. "My first daughter, the reincarnation of Kawaakari-sama, the sister of King Hiryuu. That is your name," he stated quietly.
Hmm? So he's aware that we are reincarnations? Though I doubt he realizes I remember everything... It wouldn't be safe to reveal such a thing, so I'll have to be careful... you thought.
"(Y/n), this is your sister, Yona. She is the reincarnation of Hiryuu-sama. Please protect her, as her onee-sama."
Yo..na... that's a good name for her. Your thoughts came out as giggles, causing your father to smile.
"It seems I have no reason to worry," he chuckled, looking at your hand holding hers. You babbled incoherently, trying to convey that yes, regardless of anything he said, you would always choose to protect her.
The rest of the commotion passed fairly quickly, and it wasn't until you and Yona were left alone to sleep that everything finally hit you.
It had to have been years. Centuries must've gone since Hiryuu had passed, you following shortly after. Hiryuu was not your precious twin brother, but sister now. Gu-en, Abi, and Shu-ten... they had passed... and Zeno... he had been alone for so long...!
Yet, you could still clearly remember it. Your last moments. Your last breath. It was ingrained into your memory in such vivid detail, as if just yesterday, you were in the past. As if a mere moment ago, they had been alive and with you.
