Zeynep got into the cab and headed for the restaurant. She needed to move on with her life, and it was time she stopped letting others hold her back. Cemile had called earlier asking her if she could come to the courthouse. But she declined with whatever courage she could muster.

Her phone pinged with a message. It was Dilara. Please anne, please do this one thing for me. I promise I won't ask for anything else ever again. And I promise I will stay out of your life. Just give my baba one more chance to be with us. Mujgan and I need him. I'm begging you.

Her eyes filled with tears, and she fiddled with the chain around her neck. She had been pulled apart in many direction all her life, each occasion leaving a permanent scar on her soul.

She slowly took the chain off her neck and put it in her purse. But this scar - it was going to run deep...

She leaned forward and gave the cab dirver the directions to the courthouse.

She entered the courtroom just as she heard the judge asking who would be defending Mehdi Karaca. "I'm sorry I'm late. I'm Avukat Zeynep Göksu. If you will allow it, I would like to represent Mehdi,"

"Zeynep Göksu." The judge's brows furrowed in confusion. He had just read the defendant's case file before entering the courtroom. He was certain her name was in there with a case against him that had been closed. He opened up the file before him and read through the details again briefly.

he looked up at her incredulously. "Do you think this courthouse is a joke, Avukat Gorku," he asked angrily. "You are not a defense lawyer and I see here that you filed a case against him, and a restraining order."

His voice rose in annoyance. "Are you wasting my time? Did you lie about the things he did to you? Because that would be a crime. And if you did not lie, then how can you defend him? This is a mockery of the justice system!" He turned to the bailiff, ready to dismiss her.

"Please Sir," Zeynep begged. "Give me a chance to explain"

The judge nodded briefly. Truth be told, the case now piqued his interest.

"I did not lie about what he did." She looked directly at Mehdi, "And I don't forgive him either. No woman should go through what I experienced."

Mehdi looked down, his expression inscrutable.

Zeynep looked over to the Karaca family. "I know how it feels when something is taken away from you unfairly and you don't have a chance to defend yourself. I don't wish that pain on his family. They love him, his children need him. and he deserves a fair  trial so that he can defend himself in a court of law. "

She turned back to the judge, her sincerity shining in her eyes. "Sir, Mehdi does not have a lawyer and his life is in danger in this jail. His father's killer and his henchmen are in there and determined to take revenge. This court owes him a fair and just trial. I plead with the court to move him to a jail in a different city and give him an extension on the trial so that the family has time to set up a good defense for him." She bowed respectfully to the judge. "Please consider the circumstances before you make a decision."

The judge stared at her long and hard. "It took a lot of courage to come here defend this man. But the judicial system of this country is not something to be made light off. I will put this down to your youth and inexperience, and emotional manipulation". He said the last part while looking at the Karaca family.

"This court will order that the defendant be moved to a jail in Goynuk. And the trial be postponed for a month till the family has time to set up his defense or arrange for a public defender." The judge hit his gavel to adjourn the session.
