An Early Surprise

"What in the world?!" Summer thought to herself as her cellphone rang. "Why is somebody calling me at 7:00am?!" The sun wasn't even peeking through her white curtains yet. This made the details on her blue wallpaper invisible as well. Summer examined the room, searching blindly for the source of the ringing. There, to the left, past her tiny nightstand, was her phone. It was sitting on Summer's bean bag chair.

On the opposite end of the line, the caller sat patiently waiting for Summer to pick up. This mystery caller was Jordan, Summer's boyfriend.

"Ouch." Summer moaned as she rolled out of bed, slamming into the ground. This made her dog start to holler again.
"Shut up!" Summer yelled. Her dog had just stopped hollering around 6:00am! With the yelling however, her dog whined and then went back to sleep.

Still exhausted, Summer rolled around on the ground. She soon realized that the rolling wasn't going to get her to her phone, but Summer was NOT rising to her knees anytime soon.

"Not voicemail!" The caller thought to himself, disappointed. "Hey, Summer, wake up." Jordan started after the beep, giving his girlfriend more time to answer. "Summer...okay, just please meet me outside your house around 7:45ish. I have a surprise for you..." He paused. "Btw, it's Jord."

Summer's eyes light with delight. "A surprise?!" She jumped up, off her stomach. "Jordan?!" She glanced at the clock, it read 7:05am. "I have 40 minutes!" And with that, Summer started rushing around her house. Making such difficult decisions. You know, what to wear and stuff...

Dear Mom-Out with Jordan. Be back soon. Love.

That's what the sticky note on Summer's mother's face read. After looking at her acceptable work, Summer looked at an empty space in her mom's bed. She didn't know her dad was working today..."but enough dilly dally!" Summer thought. She quickly looked to her mom's full body mirror to examine her outfit. It was a floral mini skirt, with a tucked in, navy blue, long sleeve shirt with a v-neck. It matched the navy blue in her skirt. Everything was blue and perfect except...

...her red eye. Her one red eye. The reason school bullies call Summer a freak. One red, one blue. Flawed.

Red reminded Summer of fire. She could not think of fire. That's why everything was blue. Blue wasn't fire.

7:45am struck. Summer's brown hair was in a beautiful French braid, and she held a red rose in her hand. One that she would willingly give to Jordan when they met. When Summer stepped outside, she was instantly greeted by the full summer sun. Everything but her eyes were delighted, for they were filled with bright orange.

"Summer, uh...hi!" Jordan spoke, offering Summer a handful of roses. He held in his hand a traditional picnic basket.

"Jordan! They're beautiful! I only got-" Summer started, raising her rose for him.

"I love it. Thank you." He expressed, easing Summer's stress.

She eyed his picnic basket. "What is that for?"

"Breakfast in the park, how about it?"

"You're too sweet!"

10 minutes later, you could see Summer and Jordan relaxing on a picnic blanket in the park. They laughed as they stuffed themselves with pancakes. Plus, to top it off, they had a view of a kindergartener t-ball game. Well, they were in at least in grade five, and were just throwing base-balls around, but same thing...

At least, that's what the mysterious person in the shadows thought. Thought as she watched Summer's every move.
