"You useless brat! You couldn't have had a more efficient quirk, could you!?"
A 4-year-old Mitsui Nomona sat on the floor, her bleeding feet still springing small flowers and vines tangling in her hair.
"You aren't even supposed to have a natural quirk!
You were supposed to be stronger than some stupid plants!"Mitsui didn't cry. This happened a lot. She wasn't supposed to grow something in the house, she just got a little excited.
Mitsui's father sighed heavily and walked back into the kitchen. She knew that she had not listened to her father the way he told her to, so she was not going to receive this morning's meal.
She had tried to control it, but she was just too young. Her quirk was simply out of her control.
Even as a young girl, Mitsui knew that her quirk wasn't that strong, not for the Hero Course, at least. That's why, even as a young girl she had spent day after day sparring with Shoto Todoroki, one of her oldest friends. They constantly sparred, making sure that their parents approved of every move, every stroke, every heavy breath. When Mitsui had been adopted, She and Shoto had more friendly spars. They would occasionally chat or read books. They bonded and eventually became the best of friends.
"Hey, Shoto! I'm here! I am soooo sorry I'm late."
Mitsuki bowed in apology to Shoto, smiling up at him, brightly.
"I was helping dad write his welcoming speech for the new UA students tonight! And Papa had a new sleeping bag he needed me to help him pick out for school."
Shoto smiled a small, tilted smile at his friend, nodding in understanding. Mitsuki was constantly trying to help her father with anything he needed. After all, Present Mic wasn't always prepared as he ought to be.
"It's fine, Mitsui."
Shoto and Mitsui walked to school, side by side. Mitsuki told him about her morning, and how Shinsou had stolen her breakfast. Their laughing stopped, however, when Mitsui saw the gigantic building in front of them.
"Wow,"she gasped in awe, "I can't believe we're about to take an exam to get into the best hero school in the world! It's so much bigger when you're inside the gate!" She smiled, bouncing up and down on her toes. "Can you believe it, Shoto? We're here..."
"Yeah," He says, smiling the smallest bit. "We're here."
