The one that got away

Chapter 2

Themy and I are now on the campus gate. We usually walk together up until the highway section since she and I takes different routes. I have to cross the highway and Themy will take a detour.

"I told you I'll be fine, I'm a senior now" I told Themy. The reason why she needs to take a detour is Themy wants to see me cross the highway first before leaving. Why? Well, I can't cross roads by myself.

"No, I never left you alone when crossing and it's dangerous since it's a highway." She said looking worried. I'll feel guilt if I'll have Themy see my way home. Since she mentioned earlier that her mom wants Themy back as soon as possible since they had an emergency.

"Themy please? My conscience won't let me sleep if you get scolded because of me. I swear I'm fine I played crossroad the whole summer break" Themy playfully slapped my cheeks so I pouted. "That's not connected but my mom is calling me" I nodded and patted her head to make sure it's okay.

I'm just gonna cross the road. It's not a big deal.

While waving bye at Themia, I saw Heracles staring at us or is it my imagination? What reason is there for him to listen on us?

I shrugged my shoulders and started walking home. I noticed that Heracles also started walking. I didn't put too much thought on it and just kept my pace.

"That looks heavy" I jumped a little because of shock when Heracles suddenly spoke next to me. "W-which one?" I asked

He pointed on my bag. Oh I always carry two bags. The first one is a shoulder bag and the one that Heracles pointed is a bag used to carry books and files.

"This? It's not that heavy since we haven't received our books yet." I answered. He opened his mouth a little, seems like he has something to say but chose not to.

I ignored that and continued walking beside Heracles. Don't get me wrong he approached me first.

My heart is beating so fast and my thoughts are getting clouded since the highway is now on sight.

After reaching the highway I just straight on crossed the road I can't even see if Heracles is still here because my vision got narrow due to all the feelings I feel.

"Fuck" I heard someone curse at the same time I heard a loud honking noise. Everything happened so fast but Heracles was able to grab my shoulder just before a car hit me. We rolled on the side of the road but I can feel him holding my head and back.

The moment we stopped rolling he cupped my face, looked intently in my eyes and asked "Hey, Are you okay? Are you hurt somewhere? Polyhymnia answer me!" He's shouting at my face now but all I can think of in this moment is how close Heracles is with me and how he is cupping my face gently with his cold hands.

It feels like I'm getting absorbed by his deep black eyes. Why does it feels so comfortable?

"I-I'm okay, Im sorry I got you in this trouble." I answered not breaking the eye contact.

We stayed in that position for a while until Heracles let out a sigh, Got up and helped me stand up.

But I suddenly fell down again, on the second time Heracles was able to support my waist. We both looked down and saw a bleeding wound on my knee.

"Shit Polyhymnia! You're bleeding!" He said and urgently bent down. He took a clean cloth from his bag and started covering it. Looks like Heracles is used to this kind of situations.

He stood up and brushed the dusts on my hair while looking intently in my eyes
"Don't make me worry like that again but remember that I won't let you get hurt right in front of my eyes. Let's go and have your knee checked" Heracles said and held my hand. We crossed the highway together.

Looks like I developed a trauma on crossing roads now. Also my heart can't seem to calm down as I look on his hand holding mine. It's caused by the incident earlier right? Right.
