chapter 1// the arrival

It was a warm summer evening, many new soldiers had just joined the armed forces. One particular soldier stood out among all the rest. She was the strongest, fastest, and most promising of the new bunch. She was so good that she was sent straight up to Levis squad. A lot of the other soldiers looked down on her but she didn't care. If she was really that good, so good to be that high in the ranks then so be it, it was for humanity after all.

Layla pov:

As I walked in, I was super nervous but I couldn't show it. I didn't want to let my guard down plus I had to make a good first impression on captain Levi and the rest of my new squad. A lot of other soldiers already hated me so I had to make a good impression. I really wanted them to like me, it sucked to not be liked by the other soldiers but I knew it was just jealousy. I just need to be myself and all will be well.

I stood in the doorway and introduced myself to everyone. Levi shook my hand and said "Layla, i'm glad to finally have you with us. We've heard many great things about you". I said, "Thank you so much for the opportunity, it's nice to be here sir". He then introduced me to my other squad members. Eren Yeager , Armin Arlert , Jean Kirstein , Connie Springer, Sasha Braus, Historia Reiss , Oruo Bozad , Petra Rall , Eld Gin, Gunther Schultz. I shook every ones hand.

Then he got to the last person, Mikasa Ackerman. She was absolutely stunning. She gave me a soft smile then gave me a look that made me really nervous. I wondered what she was thinking. I shook her hand and told her I was very happy to meet her. "Cadet Hirai, i'm going to be pairing you up with Cadet Ackerman. You remind me of her in many ways and I feel like you guys would work very well together so you guys better get very comfortable with each other". We both nodded and she smiled at me again. That damn smile, it was so beautiful.

"I'm very happy to be working with you Cadet Hirai. I actually really like you and I hope we get closer. By the way, just call me Mikasa". "I'm very happy to be working with you too and you can just call me Layla". It feels nice to know someone here actually likes me. We All go and sit with each other  at the table. "Woahhh iv'e never seen Mikasa smiling like this, she must love you or something Layla" Connie says while Sasha and Jean snicker at his dumb joke. Mikasa glares at him and tells him to shut up.

We all talk and laugh at the table, acting like we don't have a care in the world even though we all know why we are here together. We forget about that for now and just enjoy each others presence. Me and Mikasa seem to click right away. I can't wait to get closer with her. Something about her just really draws me to her. She seems to be amazing in every way.

Mikasa Pov:

As soon as I laid my eyes on Layla, something about her interested me. I wanted to get to know her. I wanted her to like me. What was this feeling? Maybe I just really wanted to be her friend? Maybe I was just excited to work with her? I can't wait to get closer with her. Something about her just really draws me to her. She seems to be amazing in every way.
