chapter 3// the attack

I get all suited up in my ODM gear and head out with the rest of my squad with Mikasa by my side. I try to look confident but deep down, i'm scared shitless.... the mood of the day changed so fast but I should've expected it. I'm in the military after all, our days are numbered but we must fight.

We get closer to the wall and there it is, an abnormal titan that broke through the wall, letting other titans in. Black smoke flies into the air to warn the others. Eren has already transformed into his titan form to put another bolder in the wall. Other cadets are taking down titans that are farther into the village. Levi orders me to take care of the abnormal titan and he tells Mikasa to get some of the civilians to safety.

I take a deep breath and use my ODM gear to get over to the titan. In the process of getting to that abnormal titan, I take out a couple of other titans in only a couple of minutes, something not a lot of other cadets can do as easily. I finally make it over to my target. I'm feeling very confident since I have the titan right where I want it.

Just as i'm about to slice its nape, another abnormal titan comes up behind me and catches me, as well as the other cadets by surprise. It grabs me and brings me close to its mouth while shaking me back and forth. I try my hardest to shake free from its grip but instead, it squeezes me tighter. I hear a bone in my arm crack. My brain feels scrambled, probably from a concussion. Trying to escape is useless now, I start to accept my fate.

Right when the titan is about to put me in its mouth, I am saved by her. In the blink of an eye, Mikasa slices the nape of both abnormal titans that are by me and grabs me out of the air as I fall from the grip of the titan that was just killed. She brings me to a roof and says, "Layla?! Layla can you hear me?".

As I fall in and out of consciousness, I see yellow smoke signifying that the mission is complete. When I finally regain consciousness, I'm in my bed with a bandage around my head and a cast on my arm. Mikasa is sitting right beside my bed, patiently waiting for me to wake up again.

When she sees me open my eyes, her eyes light up. She smiles and says, "Layla, your'e finally awake!" I look at her, a small smile appearing on my face, and I say, "W-what happened Mikasa?". I feel stupid for stuttering but I can't help it since i'm still a little woozy. She looks away with a worried looks on her face then looks back at me.

"Well, your arm was crushed and broken by a titan and you got a concussion. Luckily, I was there to save you before you were eaten". I reach out to grab her hand, I see her blush and she grabs my hand too. "Thank you Mikasa, I really appreciate you for saving my life".

We talk and laugh with each other for a little bit. As it starts to get later, I start to yawn and my eyes begin to flutter shut. Mikasa notices and says, "Well it looks like your'e getting tired, i'll let you get your rest. You'll need some time to recover so you can get back to normal. I'll help you with rehabilitation.... and I just wanted to say that I'm very glad that your'e alive.. I really am".

I get butterflies as she says that, "Thank you Mikasa, that really means a lot". She gets up from her chair and leaves so I can sleep, waving as she walks to the door. I smile and wave as she walks out then I quickly fall asleep while thinking about Mikasa and how much she means to me. I don't know why I get butterflies around her though. I've been trying to brush it off for a while now but it gets harder and harder by the day. At least i'm excited to do my rehabilitation therapy with her! I just have to ignore these feelings, I don't want to ruin the relationship we already have.
