You two couldn't believe what was happening right now, at this moment.
Step to the left, sway, step to the right, sway. Stay in the lighting that showers you.
You, Mitsuba Sousuke, heir of the throne to be the next Hearts King, was dancing with the one and only Minamoto Kou, the Prince from the Diamond Kingdom.
Yashiro Nene, princess of the Hearts kingdom, was arm and arm with Hanako Yugi Amane, the Prince of Spades.
How were you four dancing? Who knows. You just know that you're dancing with them, with the uneasiness writhing in your stomach.
Spin with the music, act with your partner. You are in front of so many peers; so many foreigners. All eyes are on you four for this dance. Don't screw it up and make a scene. You've practiced with Nene so many times, this waltz, so why is it so nerve-wracking to do the same in this lame-earing boy's arms?
"Please note that this is not my doing," Kou murmurs as he moves you into a spin. Flushed face, messy blond hair, dazzling (tired?) blue eyes, is all you can take in when you crash back into his arms to continue. "It is just part of the plans that I am forced to go through."
"Pfft. You don't care do you?" You hiss back, lightly sinking your pedicured nails into his gloved hands. "You just want to dance with me, do you not, you shameless pervert?"
Managing to keep up his smiling facade, though you can see the struggle to maintain it, he replies, "I assure you that it is not what it seems, Prince Mitsuba." You frown, not satisfied with that answer. You pry your eyes away from him to watch Nene and Prince Amane dance alongside them, Yashiro with a flustered face while Amane's is smug.
"Hmph- and do you plan to tell me what is going to happen, or are you going to leave me in the dark until the last minute?" You sneered, tightening your grip on his outfit.
"Who knows."
Unsatisfying jerk. It's a wonder how he was able to even saunter into this ballroom or even step foot on royal grounds.
Step two, three, twist...step three, two, leap.
Just one misstep. Just one might be the last dance for them. Both of them. Or all four. Who knows what lies under their clothing, his gloved hands.
"Why are you taking orders from the Prince of Spades?"
"...Reasons."
You just smile and seethe silently for him, not able to give you a straight answer. He pulls you into another dip as the music comes to an end. You wouldn't say it was the most magical of dances you have had, but it was fine anyway. The onlookers give hearty applause for the performance as you bow in appreciation.
Then suddenly the room explodes with chaotic screams from the people, as the doors burst opened to reveal knights in metal suits embroidered with a spade logo. The rock that has been sitting in your stomach buries itself in there as they stomp in menacingly with their blades wielded. Your eyes widen in horror as you turn to take in the icey delighted look on Hanako's face. He smiles at Yashiro when she screams, then to you, making you want to punch his face.
"I do apologize for this, but it is best to not defy the Prince of Spades when he makes an offer to you," Kou says weary over the screeches, and you can so clearly see the regret and the pleading for forgiveness in his eyes when you look at him. No, no, no, no.
Put that aside now, as your mode was to protect Nene from the cold-blooded prince. You forcefully release your hands from the blonde and reach to grab her wrist. As you pull her away, you shout over the crowd to flee from the castle as best as you can.
Now the war has begun. Oh dear.
