The girl stumbled into the bar. She pressed the door shut hard against the rain and heaved a sigh. Pulling down her cloak hood, she revealed a mess of mousy brown hair. She took a place at the bar and patted her pockets. She had left her money at home! She groaned and decided to stay for a few minutes to dry off and warm up before leaving.
It had been five minutes when the bartender came over to her.
"Lady, if yer not gonna buy anything I'm gonna have to ask ye to leave" he said as he dried out a mug.
"Just a few more minutes, I just need to warm up," said the girl.
"Five more minutes," the bartender said, "but if I don't see a drink in yer hand by then, ye gotta go." The girl nodded. The bartender moved back to serving customers.
She moved towards the fireplace, and only a few minutes passed before a waitress came up to her and handed her a glass of butterbeer.
"Compliments of the gentleman by the bar," she said, and as the girl looked, she knew that she was told to be discreet. There were at least ten men standing and sitting at the bar. She watched each one closely as she sipped her drink. The first five or so we're busy chatting up some more young girls. The next few were caught up talking about sports and occasionally breaking into songs that were slightly off key. The last man kept his distance, and (though he was sneaky about it) she thought she had caught him trying to catch her eye.
She continued to sip her drink, making it last as long as possible, and walked over to the man. He sat in the back corner and seemed to try to shrink into the shadows. As she got closer he pulled his hood up, hiding his face from view. She sat down next to him.
"Did you buy me a drink?" she asked, raising the glass a bit. The man nodded. "Why?" she asked. He didn't answer. She tried to see under the hood of his cloak but he wouldn't let her. "Oh come on!" she said after about a minute of her trying to catch a glimpse of his face. "Who are you?"
"You wouldn't like the answer," he said in a hushed voice, and she could tell he was deliberately changing his voice. She tugged at the hood one last time and this time it fell away to reveal a pointed chin and sleek blond hair.
"Draco?" she said, almost spilling her butterbeer all down her front. She quickly set her cup down and stared at the man before her. He didn't look like he was doing awful but he wasn't at his best either, even she could see that. "Draco what are you doing here? I thought you were in London at the Ministry!"
"I thought I would go out to the countryside for a bit. Get away from things."
"Fair enough. But why on earth would you buy me a drink?"
He shrugged. "Why not?" She chuckled. She pretended not to, but she saw the corner of his mouth twitch when she laughed.
"Draco would you like to accompany me on a walk now that the rain has stopped?" she asked.
"Sure," he said. He slid a few galleons across the counter towards the barman who gave the girl a sort of scowl as if to say you got lucky this time.

They walked for an hour and a half just talking. Draco had been kicked out by his wife when they divorced leaving him with nothing. He had been working odd jobs for a few months until he could get back on his feet.
"What about you, Hermione?" he asked her and she sort of smiled when he said her name.
"Well," she started. "I'm in almost the same boat as you. Ron and I broke up after three years. We got off on pretty good terms, and we're both thee for the kids when they leave for school. They're with him this week," she added and Draco nodded. "I've been working as a researcher for St. Mungo's. I help look up diseases as they turn up and sometimes do family searches for patients. You know, to know who to tell when they snuff it." Draco chuckled at that.
"Sorry, sorry," he said, "I shouldn't have laughed at that. Just... the way you said it...." He trailed off laughing a but more. Hermione couldn't help but join in. They barely noticed when new drops of rain started to fall lightly. They kept walking and talking, moving from their lives to stories of the past and reminiscing on their Hogwarts days. When Hermione punched Draco in their third year, and other adventures. They stayed away from sore spots like their last two years at school.
They were walking in a heavy rain now and they didn't seem to mind. Hermione's hair started sticking to her face and her hands hardly felt the cold. She didn't know she was cold until Draco wrapped his coat around her shivering body. She immediately put it back on him. He looked a bit hurt so she said "if we are both to be caught in a storm then we both might as well get equally sick." This made him feel a bit better, she decided from his expression. She watched as he buttoned the cloak.
"You missed the top one," she said and reached up to button it for him. He studied her face as she tried to fit the unusually small button into the slot. Her numb fingers kept fumbling with the button. Draco laughed again at her furrowed brow and her tongue in her cheek making her look like a chipmunk only half ready for winter. She looked at him and her brown eyes met his grey ones and for a moment they just stood there. Then she mumbled "button" and they regained themselves. She tried to continue with the button but Draco placed his hand over hers and moved it away. He fumbled as well but ultimately completed the oh-so-challenging task.
Hermione took her hands out of her pockets and rubbed them together for warmth. Draco wrapped his cold hands around hers in an attempt to warm up. Hermione couldn't take it anymore. She pulled forward and without any expectation her lips were intercepted by his. He didn't pull away. Instead he embraced the kiss and her, wrapping his hands around her waist and not caring that they were both probably sick and they were both soaking wet. The kiss was different from anything he'd felt before. It was electric. There was a pulse within in. Their lips moulded together and moved in time with each other.
And they both knew it.
