"Jimmy wake up!"
"James!"
My eyes opened to the sound of someone shouting my name, feeling annoyed. Sunshine was landing straight on me.
"Jimmy. Son, wake up! You have the morning art classes today!" It was Mom's voice, along with the knocking noise on my door. I stared at it first, sleep still not leaving me and all my senses still not active enough. Then i swiftly turned my head to the clock, nearly swinging it. It showed quarter to nine.
Shit!
"I'm up mom! Will be ready in a minute!"
I stood up from the chair i was sleeping on and briskly headed to the bathroom but on halfway, i slipped and fell. A loud curse came out of my mouth. My neck sore and all my limbs were tingling and numb due to my careless drift off last night. Now my ankle hurts, too.
Ugh! Why did i even worry about him?
After doing my morning routine and having a shower in ten minutes, i left the room heading downstairs to the kitchen.
There i see him smiling at me again. His face totally normal as if he's slept just enough. I'm sure now i have eyebags or dark circles underneath my eyes, ruining my barely good-looks.
I smiled back at him anyway and took a seat, grabbing the last slices of bread; three toasts, and a half-fried egg. And of course, some already-cold coffee. I shouldn't even be having breakfast so calmly when i'm already five minutes late to my class but i'm not gonna skip my first meal of the day. No way.
"You're still not going? You have your art class right?" Claire said, who just arrived and looking around the table for some remaining food. I handed him the strawberry jam and butter filled sauce cups and replied.
"Yeah. I woke up late but i can't be skipping breakfast, can i? There's some loaves in the cupboard. You have to toast the bread yourself i guess."
"Thanks anyways." He took the cups from my hand and walked to the sink where the grains are kept in the upward cabinet.
"That's good." The person in front of me talked.
"Good what?"
"Not skipping breakfast is. It's a very important meal of your day and if you don't have it, it ruins your health so bad and also impacts your work."
"Imm hmm.." I smiled, feeling amused to his explanation and took another bite of the bread mixed with some yolk.
"I used to do that when i was a teenager. Skipping breakfast. I was a nightowl. Reading crime and horror stories all night and waking up at nine and going to school so late and standing up outside the class punished the entire hour. It was so fun 'coz i get to continue the book i read the previous night. If i get too hungry, i would sneakily go to the canteen and eat pastries. Plus, i even play candy crush if the time flies too slow. It was my favorite game after all. Then after lunch-break, i would spend the whole math class sleeping as my seat was at the back of the room and i was pretty small back then so literally no one recognizes me. It's sooo boring at school but the amazing part is the badminton practice. I got pretty good friends there and we had tons of fun-"
He finally stopped after a long speech of his teen-hood recounter and stared at me with his mouth still open. I'm sure i was smiling ear to ear. Seeing a manly man bubbling like this. It's a rare thing to see.
He cleared his throat and sent his eyes to his food.
"I just wanted to say..it's good that..you don't skip breakfast." He said and stuffed his mouth with the apple pudding, his face looking like a hamster's face stuffed with food in its cheeks. I snickered under my breathe and tried to shift my focus to anywhere else but him. I feel like i'm getting way too close to him. And this is not good. Not at all. I don't want to fall for him. I wouldn't. No. I won't. Why would i?
