CHAPTER 1
I was lying on my bed lost in the music filling my ears as I turned up the music on my iPod. How could they say they don't exist? Who did they think brought presents on Christmas morning? Who replaced your lost teeth with money? Who brought snow days and blizzards? Who hid the eggs and left baskets full of candy on Easter morning? Who brought you wonderful dreams? Who protected you throughout your life? Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost, the Easter Bunny, and the Sandman that's who! They all tell me that I'm too old to believe in that stuff...they said they were dreams, fairy tales, legends, fables. How could they say that? Millions of children in the world believe in them, and obviously someone told us about them in the beginning. These people protect us, they are the Guardians. They protect us from Pitch Black, how could they not give them credit?!
People always would say that you have to see to believe. But for me, I simply have to believe to see, and apparently everyone else but kids are blind. I heard a knock on the door over Justin Bieber's song Believe.
"If you believe in Jack Frost or any other Guardian you may come in!" I yelled. My mom opened the door and my little sister came charging through.
"YAY!!!I can go into Jackie's room!!!!!" she exclaimed. I laughed as I pulled her into a hug.
"Welcome to the believer's side Lily." I said.
My mom put her hands on her hips and pursed her red lips. Her black hair pulled into a bun, and she was wearing a pencil skirt, white button down shirt, and a black blazer. She wanted me to be just like her; straight A student, long flowing black hair, and girly. I was the exact opposite.
Instead I had light blonde hair like my dad's hair, I had cut it short because long hair was a pain to take care of. I wore jeans and a t-shirt most of the time and a skirt or a dress on VERY special occasions. I had B's and A's, but it wasn't good enough for her, and I didn't have rich, posh, and snotty friends. I was friends with Scarlette Johanson, Danielle Doovan, Ashton Richards, and Tom Latson. They weren't good enough for her either, just because they were regular, normal, fun teens. To be honest my mom basically thought she was the most perfect human being.
My mom picked up Lily and told her to go play in her room. She turned around to face me and shut the door.
"That door isn't sound proof mom." I said sarcastically. Her face turned red with anger.
"Why are you doing this?" she asked. What the heck did that mean...
"What are you talking about?" I questioned. She rolled her eyes as if I knew the answer, which I didn't.
"Acting like you believe in myths and legends! Like freakin Bigfoot!" she exclaimed. It was my turn to roll my eyes.
"First of all they aren't myths, they are the Guardians. Second of all Bigfoot doesn't exist. And third of all I do believe in them." I don't know why my mom always obsessed over that, its not like it affected her horribly.
"Are you trying to fill your sister's head with these things? Do you want her to be stuck thinking about fantasies all day?!" her face was crimson red and I was pretty sure Ryan, my older brother could hear her.
"Last time I checked you wanted her head to be filled with and I quote, 'The tooth fairy and all that shit'." I made air quotes with my fingers. She seemed to hold back whatever mess of swearing she seemed prepared to yell about. She took a few breaths before she continued to talk.
"You are setting the example that it is normal to believe in these things at your age." she said simply. I looked at her like she had three heads.
"You have got to be freaking kidding me right now!" I yelled standing up. I could feel my cheeks burn. Setting a bad example? What was she saying, that I was a lunatic for believing in something that exists?
"JACQUELINE ROSE SNOW WATCH YOUR--" I cut her off.
"This is total BS!!!! You're thinking I'm crazy and setting a bad example just because I believe in something that truly exists?! THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY THAT ALLOWS ME TO BELIEVE IN ANYTHING I WANT TO BELIEVE IN!!!!!!" now I was really pissed. She looked at me in shock. I wasn't the type to rebel or swear, but when she brought up the whole "these myths don't exist" crap I lost it.
I stormed out of the room and grabbed my skate board. Luckily I was wearing a long sleeve red shirt and long skinny jeans. I grabbed my coat and beanie that were hanging on the rack beside the door. I slipped on my UGG boots quickly.
I heard footsteps coming down the stairs and my mom screaming. I didn't need to listen to anymore of it. I opened the door and let the cold breeze hit my face. I dropped my skateboard on the pavement and road off.
I reached a place in the woods far away from my house, it was like my secret hiding place. I had to go through twists and turns throughout the woods. I finally reached the clearing covered with snow and the little pond that was frozen now. I smiled knowing that it was the work of Jack Frost. I didn't care what everybody else thought, I believed in the Guardians. I sat down on a log and dropped my skateboard in the snow. I saw frost reach the log and I felt cold. I looked around to see if I could see him, but he hid. I knew I would be able to see him because I believed in him.
When it got dark I picked up my skateboard and started heading back. I obviously couldn't go home now after my whole display so I skated to Danny's house.
Winter break wasn't going to start until Friday and it was Wednesday. By the looks of the sky I smirked. Jack Frost was bringing a blizzard.
