The mental list you made never stopped growing. So many things to do and you could never finish them when you were supposed to even if you tried.
It was always: "I'll do it later." Or, "I'll finish it tomorrow."
You sighed a shaky breath, a little disappointed in the surrounding piles of homework and unfinished essays. It always ended like this, and your grades were definitely suffering for it. You frowned at the stupid sketches you had done during all your online classes. You always got distracted in your art, never got to the important stuff.
Without hesitation, you shot up out of bed, papers falling around you like leaves from a dead tree. You grabbed the bunch of drawings in a handful and crumpled them, ripped them into tiny pieces until there was no telling what had been on it before.
All that hard work. Destroyed and gone.
You didn't realize tears were making their way down your cheeks until now as you looked around your room, starting to cry and laugh, feeling insane for the first time in your life. The anxiety was like a physical weight on your chest, pulling you down.
There were papers everywhere. And no telling which one was which abused assignment. You started tearing at your hair as you choked on your tears. You didn't know why all this pent up emotion was bubbling up now, you just wanted help, someone to be there for you, to give you comfort-
You stopped abruptly as your phone dinged. A wave of anger aroused at it for absolutely no reason at all, and out of nowhere, you wanted to yeet a chair at it.
You held back enough to see who it was from.
You froze, the anger dissipating slowly.
Suga. Your boyfriend for most of high school, your best friend too. You didn't have many friends.
He was texting about coming over for his little tutoring lessons each Tuesday. That was today. Panic came back to you as you realized you couldn't let him see you like this and you picked up your phone, bottling up that emotion so much it hurt.
(Them texting)
Suga: Y/N? You there, sugar?
Y/N: yep. could we cancel tonight though maybe? I'm kinda busy.
Suga: ...
Suga: Why are u using periods in your texts? You never do that. Is something wrong?
Suga: Y/N?
You didn't reply after that because you didn't know what to say. You sank slowly against the wall to the floor where you sat in the pile of papers and cried, pulling at your sore hair again. Your phone dinged with every one of Suga's worried texts after you left him on read. Probably the first time you did that.
After about five minutes, you heard a bike skidding across your driveway, you knew it was him.
Your window was open so you heard everything from outside, Suga's hurried and anxious steps toward the house ad he messily parked his bike at your garage. You lived with your older brother and no one more, but Onii-Chan was probably drunk at some party right now anyway. He was never there to help with work either.
You heard him knock a few times but when you didn't answer, he tried the door realizing with a shock that it was unlocked.
You heard him going up the stairs but only faintly, you were sinking, sinking, into all that paperwork. Your grades would be affected away too much again, you wouldn't be able to get a job, Suga would leave and-
You jumped back as your door slammed open.
You stared at Suga, who was frantic in the doorway, with wide eyes.
"Hey!" He said rushing over to you. Concern had already filled his beautiful grey-brown eyes as he knelt beside you. He quickly pulled away one of the hands that still gripped your poor hair, and held onto it tightly. "Are you ok?! Y/N, I was so worried you can't just- listen, I knew you had been feeling down lately so I've been super concerned with your mental health-"
He was interrupted as you hugged him out of nowhere and buried your wet face in his neck, the scarf he wore was warm, fuzzy, and comforting. He returned the embrace with no hesitation and rubbed your back.
"It's ok, I'm here for you." He whispered in your ear. His voice was as soft as a pillow.
You cried into him for a while, but just the fact that he was there with you made all the negativity be gone faster than you could've hoped.
"Your amazing, you know that? You've been so strong lately Sugar. You practically live by yourself and your not even an adult yet! Don't you dare forget how strong you are. And don't you dare let some stupid homework get in the way of your happiness, okay?"
"Okay," you said, smiling and wiping the tears from your face.
After that, you both mined through the homework and essays until it was all finished. You received the evidence talking-to about the procrastinating problem. But maybe this time you would listen.
Suga knew you had trouble sleeping as well, so you and him cuddled and slept in your messy bed until morning birds sang.
