“Let’s go over there!” the command echoed across the alley. Rain started to fall from the sky.

It’s time.

I skillfully hid in the shadows and started to go my destination. The night was cold and I was drenched. But I didn’t care for I am to finish this mission. No matter what.

“Over there!”

Shoot, I was spotted.

I started to run.

“Wait!”

The same voice that I have heard a couple of minutes ago. There was no doubt; it was the captain of the Elite Daggers. I hid in the shadows of the alley, holding a bundle in my arms. For a moment, I thought I was safe. But then again, trouble always clings to me like a leech. The bundle started to squirm.

Oh no!

I started to panic; I know what was going happen next. I held my breath as the bundle continued to squirm. Then the worst happened. It started to wail.

”There they are!”

I was, once again, spotted. I clutched the bundle and started to run.

“Stop woman!”

I ran while, desperately, trying to hush the baby in the bundle. I was almost there. Sounds of footsteps were starting to grow louder. This baby is giving me a hard time. But I had to bear with it. I was almost there.

“Stop!”

The captain commanded once again. But I kept running.

I will not stop.

I can’t.

I promised.

As I continued to run, I was able to make out tiny trees as I exit the city.

The border!

A smile formed on my face, but it was quickly wiped out when I heard footsteps nearing me. They were catching up. I had to make it to the border before they reach me. I tore off the cloth covering my head and threw it backwards, hoping that it would slow them down.

I’m almost there.

I ran faster. The forest was just in front of me. There was no way the Daggers would chase me across the border.

The border loomed in front of me, I was so near. But, to my demise, a hand shot up and caught my hair and I stumbled backward, causing the one who pulled me to fall backwards too.

I will finish this mission.

With all the strength I still had, I rolled the baby through the border and disappeared through the barrier. I could still hear the faint wails. It was done, I succeeded. I completed my mission.

I stood up and unsheathed my daggers. I turned around to see five men, including the captain, with their daggers unsheathed. I smiled sweetly at them. I took my stance and said

“Sorry boys. But it has begun.”
