"listen to him"

𝐀 𝐖𝐈𝐃𝐄 𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐍 rested on Nicholas's face as he walked into Kessie's hotel suite and saw her passed out, lying across the bed, the unmistakable smell of alcohol and ciggarettes lingering in the air. He knew just by the look of it that she had had a good time with Chris.

"Did you have a lot of fun in LA last night?" Nicholas's voice was smug as he surveyed the disheveled room. Kessie stirred, the pounding in her head reminding her of the events that had transpired.

"Ow..." Kessie groaned, lifting a hand to her forehead to block out the harsh light that streamed through the uncovered windows. Her eyes fluttered open to meet her father's cold, assessing gaze. She sat up slowly, the fabric of the bed sticking to her sweaty skin. The memories of the previous night flooded back in a haze of pleasure and pain, her body still humming with the aftermath of Chris's touch.

"How was your little rendezvous with Mr. Brown?" he inquired, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "I hope you were on your best behavior. After all, we have a lot riding on this collaboration."

Kessie swallowed the bile rising in her throat and forced a smile. "It went well. He's quite the charmer, isn't he?" she said, hoping her voice didn't betray the emotional turmoil she felt.

Nicholas's eyes narrowed, searching for any sign of weakness. "Good. I've arranged a meeting with the record label executives tonight, and I expect you to be on your best behavior. No drama, no scandals. Do you understand?"

Kessie nodded, the weight of his expectations settling heavily on her shoulders once more. She pushed the memories of her night with Chris to the back of her mind, focusing instead on the task at hand. "Yes, dad. I'll make sure everything goes according to plan," she said, her voice steady despite the tremble in her heart.

"Are you hungover?" He snickered, the question a loaded weapon aimed at her vulnerability.

"I—"

"Did you two use condoms?" He interrupted, his sneer turning into a leer. "You know how these Americans are—can't trust them not to leave their seed in you. We can't have any unplanned distractions, especially not when we're this close to the big time. 'Cause if you end up pregnant... well, you're not having a baby."

The coldness in his voice sent a shiver down Kessie's spine. She nodded again, a lie slipping from her lips. "Yes, of course, dad. I know what's at stake."
