Spottedpaw's pov
I ran back into camp happily, carrying the rabbit between my jaws. Harepaw was dropping his prey on the fresh kill pile before he turned to me.
"How did your assessment go?" I ask, skidding to hault in front of him, the rabbit dropped between my paws.
"I passed mine. Tornear was very impressed" he purred before looking at me.
"So did I. Ashfoot was really proud of me. Look at the size of the rabbit I caught" I purred, pointing to the rabbit with my tail.
"That thing's really plump. That will be really good for the clan" Harepaw purred.
"Spottedpaw" my name was called and I turned to see who it was. Ashfoot was sat across the camp, looking at me with her tail curled around her paws. I leapt to my paws, waving Harepaw goodbye for now and ran over to Ashfoot. She purred.
"I've spoken to Onestar about how you did on your assessment so he should be starting your ceremony soon" she assured me.
"Come here. You look like you were dragged through a bush. You can't go looking like that when you're about to be made a warrior" she lightly scolds, leaning forward and brushing her tongue over my head to groom my fur. I didn't object, letting her lick the dirt out of my fur. Onestar calling throughout the camp caught my attention and I turned to look as he addressed the clan. I puffed out my chest, ready to recieve my warrior name. Harepaw stepped forward, head held high as Onestar made him a warrior. I flexed my claws, trying to hold the excitement I felt about being made a warrior. Harepaw, now Harespring's name was called amongst the clan as he stood proud. I got to my paws, ready to step forward and take my warrior name but Onestar flicked his tail, signalling that the meeting was over and returned to his den. Harespring approached me.
"Hey. How come he didn't make you a warrior?" he asks, tilting his head. My ears pinned down and I turned my gaze to the ground.
"I'll go speak with Onestar. Maybe he just forgot" Ashfoot explained, getting to her paws and walking towards Onestar's den. I sat in place, staring in the direction Ashfoot went, praying that she'd return with Onestar and I'd be made a warrior. She did return but not with Onestar. She padded over and turned to me.
"He said that you still haven't proven yourself to become a warrior" she explained, sighing.
"Maybe next time" she added, walking past me to go about her duties. My ears fell again and I dipped my head.
"B-but. I passed my assessment. I did everything right. I learned the code. I know how to hunt and fight. What else can I do to prove myself?" I asked, lowering my head. Harespring shuffled closer, placing his paw atop mine.
"Don't worry Spottedpaw. You'll be made a warrior soon enough" he assured me.
"Am I not good enough?" I ask, not making eye contact with him.
"I think you should have been made a warrior. Onestar's just being reasonable. He'll come around"
"I was just really hoping that we'd be made warriors together. Just like we had planned" I mumbled, flicking my tail.
"What if I made a nest outside the warriors den until you become a warrior. That way we can act like nothing's changed" he offered. I lifted my head.
"I guess that would be nice" He purrs, pricking his ears. I give his nose a quick lick.
"Thanks Harespring" I purr. He nods before hitting one paw on my head which I fluffed my fur up at in response.
