Chapter 47 She's on Fire

Cally's smile, and a little of her bliss left as soon as she saw Voight's still healing face up in IU. He greeted her with an extra gruff, "Morning, cupcake, you missed all the fun."

"Jesus, they worked you over good, you doing okay, Hank?" she asked, studying his face. He merely chewed on his toothpick nodding, but a slight glimmer in his eye was enough for her to tease, "I wouldn't say I missed all the fun."

"LALALALA," Ruzek sung out, clapping his hands over his ears.

"Like I would tell the lot of you anything," she replied, rolling her eyes and settling into her desk.

Antonio looked at her, thinking she look rested, calmer; he was happy for her but also a little jealous. "Welcome back, Callahan, missed you."

"Thanks, can't entirely say the same," she smiled, before studying him, he looked drawn, beyond exhausted. She knew the divorce was trudging forward, Laura milking him for all she could and using the kids as pawns. She could only imagine the legal bills, no wonder he had taken a side job. "You, uh, doing okay? E told me about your, um, thing."

"I'm good, it's fine," he replied, his tone curt enough to tell her she wasn't getting anything else out of him for the time being.

"Alright, you know the drill, New Year's Eve means drunk idiots and in Chicago that means drunk idiots with guns. We support Platt and the 2-1 however they need us. In the meantime, as soon as Princess Lindsay gets her butt up here, I'll brief her and Callahan on the latest with the U of C case."

"You would think with the President pointing a finger directly at a school for sexual assault and harassment complaints, you might not want to be trafficking in girls or drugs through the place; but luckily, criminals are stupid," Voight said as soon as Cally and Erin were settled in his office.

"Oh, so we get to dress as high-class hookers?" Erin quipped, though she seemed a little distracted.

"No, you get to dress as RAs, because starting at the new semester that's what you two are going to be, graduate students, resident advisors and buyers or suppliers. That is if your husbands are okay with it." Voight's tone told them both how enthralled he was with their wedded bliss.

Erin and Cally looked at each other before glaring at Voight. "He is not my keeper," they both snapped in unison.

"Great, there is an echo in here." He dropped files in their laps, "read up and be ready to roll in the New Year."

Cailin saw how Erin's face paled as soon as they left Voight's office. "Why don't we got check out these files over some breakfast?" she suggested, putting a finger up to Adam when he started to protest. Erin just nodded, another sign that something was lurking beneath those hazel eyes.

She got as far as their pool car before she broke out with "shit, shit, shit, shit!" looking closer to tears than Cally thought she had ever seen the other woman.

"Er, what is it? Kelly might not love the idea of not having your fine self home for a month, but he'll deal."

"I'm pregnant," was Erin's reply, her mouth in a straight line. She was still digesting the news her doctor had confirmed that morning after her re-qualifying physical.

"Shit," Cally replied, slightly stunned before bursting out with, "how? Wait, I know how, but when? Does Kelly know? We have to go back in there and tell Voight, he won't let you go UC like this." Her tone and rate of speech both ramping up as she tried to get out in front of this.

Erin shot her a look, "Callahan, chill out, would you. Apparently I didn't pack everything I should have for Vegas, but yes, Kelly knows and despite it not being intended, he is over the moon."
