You would think that getting out the door is an easy task. Oh hell nah. My family has one dog and three cats. The dog is like, chill. The cats are maniacs. Cute, cuddly, maniacs. Maniacs that are obsessed with open doors. The ears of a cat can't be tricked. I know that by experience.
So when I got out of the door, I had to act like nothing, NOTHING, was happening. But guess what. GUESS WHAT. GUESS WHO CAME RACING DOWN THE STAIRS. Marcy, the maniac cat. Leader of maniacs. So as soon as I saw her floofy tail, I knew it was either run or game over. I swung the door closed. Praying that I didn't hurt her, I walked to the bus stand.
Usually, I stand there for no longer than two minutes, but getting out of the door like Sonic bought me some time. To do what? To sit. And stare. At the ground. How fascinating. Try it one day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What's the difference between a rowdy school bus and a school bombing? Nothing. Virtually the same thing. To be honest, I do join the fun, but that's after my friends get on the bus. Darryl Morrison is our driver, and he's pretty cool. He lets us call him Darryl and even plays music on the way to school. Of course, he's following rules, just taking advantage of the things that the officials didn't rule out.
My friends, Sophie and Bella, joined the crowded bus at the same time, given they lived closer together. My friends and I had our own space, just like most of the other kids. We sat there since the beginning of the year, and anyone who sat there before us would get a little evil stare. Darryl may be fun, but he didn't allow fights in his bus.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"So, where is it?" Sophie asked.
"Yeah. Did you get it?" Both of my friends were staring at me.
"Um", I hesitated, "Maybe not in a crowded bus?"
They sighed and nodded, and finally gave up interrogating me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~They were asking for something too special for me to take out in a bus full of rodeo level kids. wI couldn't risk losing it. "It" was a ring from my mother. Before she died. It was one of her favorite pieces of jewelry, my dad had said, so he gave it to me. My older sister had known my mom, and she decided that because I hadn't even seen my mother, I deserved to keep the ring
I wasn't too into jewelry, but I liked rings. Subtle jewelry. The ring was silver, shaped like a long wheat plant that circled the finger of the person who wore it. Delicate, subtle jewelry. The kind of jewelry I liked. I always thought that because of that, maybe I was just like my mother, but something told me, probably not.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~While I was blanking out, my friends were talking about love interests. Sophie was lesbian, so she made a look every time Bella claimed a boy was really cute. I thought Bella's taste was all about looks, but she wasn't wrong. Most of the boys she talked about were either basketball players or football players. The strong, and good-looking. Even if they were stupid as fuck, she found a great interest in looks. Or maybe all her interest in looks.

By the time we got to school, there were around 20 kids on the bus. It was quite crowded, although most of us were used to it. We got off the bus, and walked through the gates surrounding Hallow Middle School, for the 1,000,000th time. Once we walked in, we couldn't leave for another six hours. Depressing.
~~~~TIME SKIP~~~
After classes were over, my friends and I all went to Bella's house. Bella's mom was nice, she'd let us do anything in the world(other than destroying the world). She worked at her office, so she wouldn't be home right now. We knew we'd get our own private time at her house. We all walked over to her house, talking about how Karol had looked at Bella and winked in class. Although the rest of us didn't find any love interest in girls, we both teased Bella about her crush on Karol.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We all got to the house and settled into Bella's room. She had a very feminine taste and kept her room mysteriously tidy. Like, hella tidy. You couldn't walk into her room and see clothes on the floor. Not even in a different universe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I sat down, and I saw my friends staring at me expectantly. I suddenly remembered and started shuffling through the misplaced contents of my backpack. I found the small box in one of the pockets and showed my friends.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Is that it?" Bella asked with fascination.
I nodded, opening the tiny box. Inside was the ring, my prized possession. My friends' eyes went wide when they saw the precious jewelry. Bella looked at the ring closer, trying to figure out what material it was, and what brand.
"Don't try Bella. It's pure silver, and it was made by my grandmother herself."
"No way. Your grandma made jewelry?" Sophie asked.
"No...I don't think so." I frowned. "She was a trader. Maybe she made jewelry. I'd have to ask my sis."
I sighed, wishing that I had known my mom. I had to get answers from my sister for every little thing I wanted to know. She didn't act superior about it, but I knew she adored knowing more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I let my friends have another look at the intricate piece of jewelry, and then I closed the box. I put it back in my backpack. I wish I knew more.
