I awoke to the sun beaming in through the window blinds.  I then looked over at my alarm clock which read 8:05am and then I quickly realized soon after that today, December 25th, is Christmas and my 11th birthday.

I immediately pushed back my blanket, opened my bedroom door and ran down the hallway, towards my parents' room. I shook them awake and they sprung out of bed with fright. I then quickly apologized and gave them the old "you can't stay mad at me on my birthday let alone Christmas speech". Once I dragged them out of bed and my dad made his morning cup of coffee, I sat down beside the Christmas tree waiting with bated breath to open my first present.

After my parents had gotten all situated, my mom handed me my first present which was an envelope. At first, I wondered if it was a Christmas card my parents had made me until I flipped over the card and saw a Hogwarts stamp printed on the back of the envelope sealing it shut. I had overheard my mother and father's conversation about Hogwarts and the wizarding world, but never did I ever think that I possessed the same powers my mom and dad did. After hesitating for a moment, I began to open the envelope.

Inside was a piece of parchment which I opened before I could register the fact that it was a piece of parchment. I then read the letter out loud to my parents.

Dear y/n Pixiestone,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.

Yours sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall Deputy Headmistress

I starred at this letter for what seemed like an eternity until my parents broke my glaze and asked me if I was okay. I then realized my jaw for completely dropped and I had frozen in shock. I looked up to see my parents worried expressions wondering how I was taking this news.

I was utterly overwhelmed with this news. I heard that you needed to be 11 to attend Hogwarts but it never had it occurred to me that on my 11th birthday that I, y/n Pixiestone, would ever be attending Hogwarts.

Then, I pulled myself together told shouted "Omg are you serious!?"

My mother then replied with "Yes, we weren't sure when we should tell you but then when your envelope arrived, we thought this would be the best way."

My brain was full of so many questions I didn't know where to start.

"How long have you known that I was a w-wizard?", I stuttered.

"Since your last birthday when you lit your own candles on your birthday cake by just looking at them.", my dad said.

"I thought you just bought special candles or something." I replied.

This Christmas/ birthday was not was I was expecting at all, in a good way.

Then I realized that there was writing on the back of my Hogwarts acceptance letter. I was so quick to open unroll the letter that I didn't acknowledge the writing on the back which read all of the supplies I would be needing which contained, a set of robes, a pointed hat, protective gloves, a winter cloak, spell books, a wand, cauldron, telescope, brass scales, and a pet of choice.

"Where are we going to get all of this?", I asked curiously.

"Diagon Alley of course!", my mom replied back excitedly like she had been waiting to say those words for a very long time.

The rest of my birthday presents were a blur because my feelings were so awestruck by my acceptance letter. I couldn't believe it. Me? How could I get into Hogwarts? Besides it was past September, and even though I had a late birthday I assumed I would have received my acceptance letter in September when I suspected they send them out.

All my thoughts were then interrupted by my mom and dad bringing out my birthday cake which was a home-made cake my mom had baked earlier this morning. It was a choclate cake, with pink pastel icing, and letters on the top which read "Happy 11th Birthday y/n!".

My parents then began to sing happy birthday to me while I sat in my chair awkwardly. I never really enjoyed people singing happy birthday to me because it always made me uncomfortable being the center of attention.

When my parents finally finished singing, it was time for me to blow out my candles. I began to think about what I should I wish for. I take birthday wishes very seriously. After some pondering, I settled to wish for...

"What did you wish for?" my dad asked.

"I can't tell you otherwise it won't come true!" I shouted eagerly back.

After my very eventful birthday, I couldn't help but wonder why I had gotten my acceptance letter now instead of at the start of September when I assumed, they would usually send them out. So, I decided to ask my parents.

The next morning, I headed downstairs into our modern white-marble kitchen and sat down at our wooden oak table while my mother was making eggs and bacon on the stove and my father was reading the morning paper which I hadn't realized until now that it was called the "Daily Prophet" and not the normal local newspaper the rest of the neighbourhood got.

I looked curiously at the front cover and realized there was a picture of a young boy named Harry Potter and the headline read "Harry Potter goes to Hogwarts to start his first year!"

I glance up from the headline and ask my dad who Harry Potter is. My father then flips over the newspaper quickly and looks suspiously at me like I wasn't supposed to see that. My dad then calls my mother from in the kitchen and gives her a very serious look. "I think we need to have the talk with her" my dad says.

"Yes, I think she's ready." my mother replies in an uncertain voice.

My father then cleared his throats and said, "Years and years ago there lived the darkest wizard named Voldemort. He would do cruel things to gain power. He had many followers and would kill many people to reach power. One night, he went to kill three wizards named Lily and James Potter and their son Harry Potter. He used the killing curse on both of the parents and then when he turned towards the baby and cast the spell, it didn't go as planned. The killing curse didn't work on Harry Potter and Voldemort disappeared and hasn't been spotted since that night. Harry Potter was the first person to have ever survived the killing curse which made him famous. Some say Voldemort is dead, but your mother and I still think he is out there, and we want to keep you safe."

"Which is why you received your Hogwarts letter late. You originally received it at the end of August, but your father and I were hesitant on letting you go because of Harry Potter returning to Hogwarts. Not mention, all the Slytherins which all have connections to Voldemort in one way or another. Promise me something dear, stay away from Draco Malfoy.", my mother said in a serious tone.

I was struggling to comprehend everything my parents had just told me in such a short time span. "I promise." I assured my mother. "What are Syltherins?"

"Once you arrive at Hogwarts, you will be sorted into your house. There is Griffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Syltherin." my father explained.

"But you have nothing to worry about y/n because a sweet little innocent girl like you would never end up in Slytherin." my mother said.
