John lay on his bed staring up at the ceiling, a wide smile on his face. His bruises hurt, but his heart was full and happy. Alexander and him had become friends in the past week, and he just made an extraordinary progression with their relationship. Before, the Felan wouldn't dare to go near John, wouldn't even want to stay inside of the lawn. Now, they would play wrestle and Alexander would allow John to pet his ears. He wouldn't let him go near his tail, however. But there was always more progress to be made. John's dad hardly talked to John, and was rarely home since he was the Police Chief. John's mother had passed when he was a baby, so she wasn't around anymore. Therefore, John and Alexander had all day to play. Though Alexander never stayed too long, probably had things to do.
A loud "Boom!" outside of John's window interrupted his thoughts. He bolted out of bed and scrambled to the window, a wide smile on his face as he opened the window expecting to see Alexander right under it. "Alexan.. What?" The grass below him was empty. Not only that, the entire lawn was empty. "Alexander..?" John mumbled under his breath, searching for his Feline friend all around.
In the distance, a thief bolted across the street and bounded across the sidewalk in three steps, holding what looked like several varieties of fruit. Three security guards with guns were shooting at him. John scoffed, turning his head in a different direction. "Just thieves."
"Get back here, Felan!" One of the guards shouted as they shot at him.. John swung his head back around and gasped. The thieves hood had fallen down, and two large, fuzzy ears were being shown. "Alexander?!" John sounded surprised, yet somewhat angry at the same time. Alexander turned his head as he ran, looking back at John nervously with a slight wave before he bolted around the corner.
John sighed and rested his arms on the windowsill, his head on top of them. "So he is a thief.. just like I thought he was. My dad was right, all Felan's are good-for-nothing monsters.. Shame.. I really liked him." He blinked a few tears away, shaking his head in anger and gritting his teeth. "He lied to me, he didn't like me at all, probably just wanted to steal from me. But why would he fix my vase then?" John's mind swirled with thoughts of confusion, which was all interrupted as he glanced up, seeing a shadow at the end of the street. It was Alexander again, alone and panting heavily. He shuffled up the corner and up to the gate, climbing up the broken ladder pieces and into the yard. His ears were folded down shamefully as he set the couple of fruits down, one of which being a pomegranate, scooting it closer to the window. John looked down at him, to the pomegranate and other fruits, then averting his gaze away.
"You lied to me. You're nothing I thought you were, you're just a thief." Alexander's ears folded down farther, his tail tucked between his legs with shame. He held his flat cap in his hands, holding each side as he backed up towards the pillar. "S-sorry.." He turned slowly and put his cap over his head, adjusting it before grabbing onto the ladder piece, leaping over the gate and slowly walking across the street.
John looked down at the fruit once more, looking up and watching Alexander sadly. "So he can talk.." He whispered to himself, climbing out of the window and hopping onto the grass of the lawn. He picked up the pomegranate, holding it close to his chest before picking up an orange. He stepped onto the ladder piece, throwing it at the back of Alexander's head but missing horribly. Thankfully though, Alexander turned to watch the orange roll in front of him, chasing it on all fours until he caught himself and the orange in a somersault. He quickly stopped himself, staring down at the orange in his hands and back up at the gate.
"Who said all thieves were bad? Surely you have an explanation, and it better be a good one." John smiled softly, hopping down from the gate and turning back to sit under his window. Alexander smiled hopefully, running back to the gate and leaping over the steps and the gate itself, landing on his feet and holding the orange. He shuffled over to John and sat in front of him, opening the orange and offering John a piece, who took it and ate the small slice. Alexander took a deep breath, taking his cap back off and fiddling with the rough fabric. He cleared his throat, folding his ears down and trying to make his sentence as short as possible. "Mother died when I was little, can't get a job, have to steal to survive.." His voice was almost hoarse, a rough raspy tone, but nevertheless John found it absolutely beautiful. With his slight English accent, personality and style to match, Alexander found him gorgeous despite his dirtied face and ragged clothing.
John nodded and leaned in, moving the orange out of Alexander's hands and wrapping him in a tight hug. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have gotten so mad." Alex nodded slowly and rested his head on John's shoulder, giving his neck a few licks of affection. John chuckled softly, pulling the Felan into his lap and rubbing his back. He smiled and nestled his head under his friends chin, purring softly into his chest. John adjusted himself, spreading his legs to hold Alexander closer to his body. It was cold outside, so he wanted his warmth.
After a minute or two, Alexander had fallen fast asleep in John's arms. The awake man glanced down at the Felan, smiling and rubbing his ears, this had been the longest time Alexander had stayed. John pulled him closer, getting a slight shiver as Alexander's ears brushed against his chin.
"Oh Alexander.. Sometimes it makes me wonder how you've survived for this long.. You'd have to be a bad person to survive out there.. But you're nothing of the sort, I know it." Alexander stirred slightly, lifting his head with a small portion of his tongue poking out of his mouth. His eyes were still closed, and he was still purring vibrantly. John looked down at him embarrassed, hoping he didn't hear any of that. Alex just leaned closer, attaching his lips to John's bottom lip and pausing. John froze, a vibrant shade of red flushing over his face. Alexander's lips began to move slightly, curving into a type of circle with his tongue flicking at his bottom lip. He folded his ears back and gently began suckling on John's bottom lip, reaching his arms forward to place his palms on John's chest. Continuing his peaceful slumber, he began kneading his palms into his shirt, just like a cat would do to "make biscuits".
John giggled and shut his eyes, leaning his head back slightly and holding the Felan close. "I'll wake you up when the time comes." He whispered, kissing the top of Alexander's head.
