Claustrophobia

Neither the Warners nor Violet new she was claustrophobic at the beginning. They'd assumed being locked in the water tower for 60 years was the cause later on. Although, it still came as a bit of a shock when Wakko came running to his siblings, saying Violet was in the hospital.
Immediately, the three of them went to find Dr. Scratchinsniff. He was startled when they burst into his office (as usual), but quickly became confused when the siblings didn't start making a nuisance of themselves. Something wasn't right.
"What is the matter?"
"Violet's in an ambulance headed for the hospital!"
There was so much worry in Dot's voice. The poor girl was almost in tears. Wakko was fidgeting, looking guilty about something. Yakko hadn't even said a word since they'd barged in.
"Okay. Come along, ya?"
The drive to the hospital was a silent one. Occasionally, a sniffle was heard but other than that, nothing. The doctor smiled to himself. Only the worry & love for a friend would make them behave, he thought.

"You want room 113. But, you must keep quiet. The girl needs her rest."
They thanked the receptionist & headed to the designated room.
Hooked up to a respirator & a few other machines, was Violet. She looked so peaceful. As though the world wanted her to sleep forever. Yakko walked up to the bed & gently held her hand.
"Violet? Can you hear me?" His voice was so soft you almost had to strain your ears to hear him.
Nothing. Not a finger twitch, eye lids fluttering open, absolutely nothing. That was when Wakko spoke up.
"I'm sorry. This is all my fault"
"What do you mean?" asked the Warner sister.
He looked at her, then to his brother (who hadn't taken his hand or eyes off of Violet) & sighed. "We were just having some fun, ya know? Eventually we got tired, so I thought it would be fun to ride the elevator up & down 'til we got sick. But, when the doors closed, she started breathing real heavy. She said she was dizzy & then she passed out. I panicked! Told the nearest person I saw to call for an ambulance."
The tears had finally fallen. He let his friend down, by not knowing how to help her. She'd collapsed right in front of him & he'd done nothing. That's what got to him.
"From the sound of it, your friend is claustrophobic."
The three were so wrapped up in Wakko's explanation, they didn't realize Dr. Scratchinsniff had entered the room. Another doctor right beside him. She had a kind smile on her face.
"Claustro-what?" Wakko wiped his tears away.
"Claustrophobia. It's a form of anxiety, in which some people feel as if the walls are closing in on them in small spaces. They can't breathe properly, feel dizziness, sometimes nausea. Most cases have been known to have happened during a traumatic part in ones childhood. Given what Dr. Scratchinsniff has told me, I think I know how this happened. You don't have to worry, though. She'll be just fine."
"Can we stay with her? Until she wakes up at least?" It was so unnerving to hear Yakko speak so little. Dr. Scratchinsniff thought he sounded broken for a moment. Like a piece of him might never be whole again.
"I'm afraid we can only allow you another hour. Visiting time is almost up."
The looks on their faces tore at her heart. If she could let them stay, she would. But, that just wasn't procedure.
"We will come back first thing in the morning." Scratchinsniff said. He hated seeing them like this. No energy whatsoever. It just wasn't right.

The next day, was the biggest relief in the world for the Warners. When they entered Violets room, she was already awake & looking far better than the night before. They were so happy, that they ran to give her a huge hug.
"Don't you EVER scare us like that again, young lady!" said Dot.
"We were so worried about you. For a second, I thought you'd never wake up," came from Yakko.
"Violet, I'm so sorry!" Wakkl cried.
"What for? It's not like we knew I have Claustrophobia."
"But I-"
"Wakko William Warner. This was NOT your fault. Do you understand me?" For someone who was usually so passive, she definitely knew how to get her point across.
He smiled. "Yeah."
"Good."
After the doctor came in to give her a list of treatments (which she gave to Yakko claiming she'd loose it), Violet was discharged from the hospital. She was so happy to be going home with her friends. Hoping that any future anxiety/claustrophoba attacks where very far in the future.

If I didn't describe claustrophobia well enough, please feel free to let me know. Constructive criticism is also welcome 😊
