Diary Of A First Time Mom

The Plus Sign

Hello Diary dear,

Positive.

The slip of paper containing the test results shook slightly in my hands. I looked at my husband Shane, and nodded. "it's positive" I whispered. "I'm pregnant" I said to myself,I'm not sure he heard it.

I looked at him and he was staring at me with this look. I wondered what was going through his mind. If there was a word to describe happy, panicked, elated, scared, proud and confused all in one look, that was his facial expression.

To be honest, we kind of expected it, but to have it confirmed at the lab... Well it just solidified my fears. Yes fears. I'm freaking out right now. What do I know about raising a child. I was barely an adult myself. I know twenty five is an adult but I was still freaked out. What kind of a mother was I going to be? Scratch that, what kind of parents were we going to be?

I felt arms envelope me and I melted into Shane's warm embrace. He kissed the side of my head and whispered " I love you". He pulled back and looked me straight into he eye and

"YES!" he shouted with a fist pump and a look I could pinpoint ;pure joy. At that moment I knew I could do this. We could do this. There is no manual on how to be a parent... I smiled at him and hugged him tight.

" I love you Baby, we can do this" I said into his neck. He squeezed me tightly and said "we will give it our best shot. I trust you and I believe in us"

I kissed him and said I wanted a coke.
"what? But you hate coca cola, and it's too early to start having weird cravings"
I laughed, I was barely six weeks gone but I wanted to jump right into pregnancy mood, hence the need to drink a chilled bottle of coca cola. Little did I know that I didn't need to rush it. I was in for a reality check.

A/N

This is my first shot at writing. But then  I'm a bit skeptical about putting up my first pregnancy experience. If the reaction is great, I might just turn my diary into a book. Until then, I will wait and see.
