Author's Note: Hi reader, this is my first fan fiction short story. It's not very long, but I imagine that the original story (by Connie Glynn) could've went a bit like this, if it were slightly more of a horror story...
P.S: The first few paragraphs in italics are actually taken from the real book (start of Chapter 49), so all credit goes to the author, Connie. Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
(Lottie Pumpkin is trapped in a room with Prince Edmund, during the Maravish Summer Ball. Jamie Volk is swept up in the midst of the ball, unaware of what is happening. Ellie Wolf, the real Princess of Maradova, comes flying into the room and punches the Prince in the face. But what the two girls don't realise is that Edmund is plotting something truly terrible. Something that Lottie will feel forever guilt for...)
Edmund fell back against the wall, clutching his nose as a bright stream of blood gushed out between his fingers, running down his lips and neck, and leaving a crimson crescent mark on his shirt. It was a violent display. Lottie had to cover her mouth to stop from screaming - because Edmund was still conscious.
Lottie hiccuped back another sob as Ellie rushed over to her side. 'I'm so stupid. I'm sorry. This is all a stupid misunderst-'
Lottie was cut off by a furious growl from Edmund. He looked down at his blood-covered hands. 'You filthy little commoner! How dare you!'
He slowly got up, not breaking eye contact with Ellie. A manic, sinister smile grew on his face, like a wolf's. He walked calmly towards the two girls, who seemed to be frozen in shock and horror, when he pulled a gun sharply from the inside of his jacket.
'You will pay for that, you know. How dare you interfere.' He purred. Ellie held his gaze, trying her best to convince herself that she wasn't scared, that she wasn't afraid. But she didn't seem to be able to move and her feet wouldn't carry her to the door. She had done everything she could at a desperate attempt to save and protect Lottie. But it was at a price.
She was in danger. Her heart pounded furiously, filling with dread, and she could feel the sweat building on her skin. Edmund was looming closer, closer, a towering figure blocking out the light from the window. His gun was aimed directly at her and the last thing she saw was his eerily calm, yet menacing smile.
Salty tears streamed down her face. Lottie couldn't believe it. How could I ever let this happen? This was all her fault. She was horrified. Her best friend was lying dead in front of her. Bright red blood pooled around Ellie's cold body. Edmund slipped silently out of the room, still smiling calmly at Lottie. She heard him lock the door from the outside of the room. She was trapped. Trapped with no way of escaping, other than the narrow window on the other side of the room. It had grown dark outside now, with a pitch black sky plunging the room into darkness. Lottie didn't know if she wanted to stay there forever, crying over Ellie, or jump out of the window, leaving all of this behind.
But she couldn't do that and leave Ellie. Ellie was always fiercely loyal to Lottie; now she had to do the same. She couldn't even bring herself to move. Tears spilt from her eyes and blurred her vision. She felt guilty, as if she was responsible for all of this. If she hadn't of fallen for Edmund's silly little tricks, then Ellie never would of had to try to protect Lottie like this. She was the worst friend ever. She had been frozen in shock, simply standing and watching as Edmund had killed Ellie. Lottie hadn't even attempted to move, to save Ellie. This is all my fault, she thought. I really am responsible for this.
It was dawn. Lottie stayed there for hours on end, crying over Ellie, overwhelmed with guilt and remorse for her friend, and anger and hatred for Edmund. She realised that if she ever managed to escape from this room, she would have to tell Jamie what had happened. She couldn't bear the thought of it. Lottie knew that he would be worried sick about the both of them right now, but she didn't want to have to relive what had happened, and she certainly did not want see the look on Jamie's face. She would have to stay in here, with Ellie's body, and live with the guilt and torment.
Then it hit her. This was Edmund's plan. A plan for revenge. A plan to make sure that Lottie would forever suffer. He had locked her in here with Ellie's dead body, and now it was a reminder of the consequences of Lottie's actions. That she had to live with the constant regret, anguish, torture and suffering until she died of starvation, until she died lying beside her murdered friend...
