Author's Note: Hi reader! So I said that I will write about Saskia and the kidnapping, but with an alternate ending. Though the book is kind of a collection of unrelated, short stories, Ellie is still dead in this story, so I guess this is after 'Prince Edmund', if Lottie survived.
Most of this story is taken from the actual book, (the parts in italics) except for the last handful of paragraphs. (I did however, cut out some parts from the original book, just to shorten it.) The story begins from Chapter 49 in the actual book, like my last story. Also, I am writing a Jottie fanfic called, 'A Jottie Romance', so I would appreciate if you checked that out too.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
(Saskia had taken Lottie to borrow one of Anastacia's dresses, and poured her some tea. What Lottie doesn't realise is that Saskia is plotting something behind everyone's backs. And when Jamie tries to save Lottie, before it's too late, something truly terrible happens...)
Chapter 49: (From the actual book)
"Actually...I wanted to ask you about Anastacia," Lottie said, smiling awkwardly at her. Saskia didn't respond. "If that's okay..." she added, feeling a chill creeping up her spine.
Saskia returned the smile, but there was something not quite right about it. The chill worked its way through Lottie's body and she suddenly found her vision blurring. She coughed a few times but found she was struggling to catch her breath. The cold chill gripped Lottie's stomach; a thought crystallised in her mind.
I've been poisoned.
She gasped, trying to muster the breath to scream. Saskia kept smiling, a nasty tranquility resting on her features, and then it hit Lottie.
"It was you...the note..."
Her thoughts became hazy and she lost control of her senses. She dropped the teacup and could barely register it smashing on the wood floor.
"You could ask me about Anastacia, I suppose -" Saskia's tone changed dramatically, her voice dripping with an icy humour -"but she's not the one you should have been watching."
The room began to spin around Lottie; Saskia's voice slowly faded away and everything turned to black.
She opened her eyes to see Saskia kneeling in front of her, meticulously binding her wrists. She'd been kidnapped.
She pulled her knees together, willing the nausea not to win as she sat up straight. Feigning as much murky confusion as possible, she looked around a van, discreetly taking in as much as she could.
Saskia had tricked them all. Saskia had been planning to kidnap Lottie since the moment she had met her. "Why are you doing this?" Lottie was relieved by how groggy and choked her voice was, hoping it would lower Saskia's guard.
Saskia turned to her. There was an eerie soft smile on her lips that made Lottie shiver. "Who were you talking to on the phone?" Lottie asked. Saskia's 'friendly' smile melted away and she looked off into the distance. "Them."
She spoke with a reverence as if she were talking about a god, and a chill ran up Lottie's spine. "They're called Leviathan and they're here to change things. And you're my ticket to being fully initiated. I have no idea why, but they want the Mavarish Princess - you, more than anyone." Saskia pulled a package from her suit jacket and began fiddling with it. Lottie noticed it had two small knives and gulped, wondering how many other weapons Saskia was concealing.
Before Lottie could dwell on this any longer, Saskia took out one of the knives, and pointed it at Lottie. "Of course, I'm giving away to much valuable information to you, so if you even dare ask me any more questions, then I won't be so nice." Lottie nodded quickly, swallowing her fear, shivers like icy fingers running along her spine.
Out of the blue, came a figure running faster than what Lottie thought was humanly possible. It hurtled down the snowy track so fast it was almost a blur. Jamie. He had come to save her.
Saskia's face grew alarmed; she flew out of the van and pulled a gun from her jacket, aiming it at the figure thundering towards her. "Jamie, look out!" Lottie called as loudly as she could, but her voice was too groggy and small. It sounded helpless.
Jamie tried to move Saskia's hand so that the gun was aimed at her, but she twisted round, pointed it at Jamie, and pulled the trigger...
Lottie's eyes grew round in horror. Her heart was a furious drum in her chest; she could feel the blood pounding loudly in her ears and she couldn't breathe. Everything seemed to be in slow motion as she watched her friend being shot dead.
