"Mum? Mum, I can't see you, all I can see is the ceiling. Move the phone back".
It was the second day of our honeymoon and Eleanor couldn't wait any longer to call home. As much as I was enjoying having my wife to myself, I found myself laughing at the sight of Eleanor's mum trying to figure out how to face time.
"Grandma, I'll show you" Sofia giggled at her grandma's lack of understanding of technology.
My heart swelled as the phone moved away from the ceiling and instead Sofia's beautiful face came onto the screen.
"Mummy! Daddy! Hi!" she waved enthusiastically as she balanced the phone on a table so we could see her and my mother in law.
"Hey baby, how are you? We miss you" I jumped in like a crazed child. In all my life, I had never spent more than a weekend away from her. It was hard, but she wouldn't be upset like she used to. She had big girl responsibilities and a younger sister to watch over and protect. Sofia was growing so fast and so mature for her age.
"I am good. I miss you two. When are you coming home?" she questioned with her head tilted to the side.
"In 8 days baby, but I hope you're having fun".
Eleanor subtly grabbed my hand and rubbed her thumb on my skin sensing I missed my girls.
"I am having so much fun. I have painted so many pictures, even Amelia has too. She's still leaning, but I am helping her. We baked lots of cakes, played hide and seek and look, I made Oreo his own cardboard crown. He loves it".
Sofia held up Oreo who stared straight at us with a face of 'send help'.
"Doesn't he just. Now, where's the other princess?".
Sofia looked up at her grandma and giggled.
"We did some messy play for her. Look". Sofia rushed over to the phone and picked it up before rushing over to the far corner in the kitchen.
"Oh my God" I whispered as I looked between the screen and Eleanor.
There was our little angel sitting on a large silver tray covered in different coloured jelly. It was all in her hair, smeared on her face, but I couldn't help but laugh as she squished it and babbled adorably as she explored the textures and tastes.
"Hello my messy angel, you having fun?" Eleanor cooed grimacing slightly as Amelia shoved a whole handful of jelly into her mouth.
"She has had soooooo much fun, but she ahhhh"-
Suddenly the phone fell out of Sofia's hands and Eleanor and I watched in amusement as Amelia crawled over and picked the phone up probably thinking it was a new toy.
Eleanor and I were in fits of laughter as Amelia brought the phone up to her face, but angled it to reveal her very large double chin and chubby cheeks.
"Hey beautiful" I cooed as she frowned and explored the phone.
"Oh fuck" I mumbled as she shoved the phone into her mouth and sure enough, the call ended.
"Seems like they're having fun" Eleanor giggled before switching her phone off.
"Of course they are. Now that we've had an update, I think it's time we do some exploring of our own" I whispered into my wife's ear.
Eleanor picked up her phone off the table and nodded.
"I'm just going to text mum and tell her I'll call her later".
Pushing myself up off the sofa, I walked over to the bar and poured myself a drink.
"So, I've also booked a hotel for tonight. As much as I love fucking you on this boat, we have a few plans tonight and it's easier for us to stay in a nearby hotel".
