Opening
35 years in the past. 6 months into Freshman year at the University of Chattanooga in Tennessee, a 17 year old Samuel Woodrow is sitting on the grass reading a comic book. Jocelyn Antoni is walking by, Samuel looks at Jocelyn, she looks at Samuel, and they smile and wave at each other. Jocelyn walks by a group of 3 guys.
Bully- "Hey, Jocelyn! Come over here real quick!"
Jocelyn looks at guys and she keeps walking.
Bully- "Oh, come on don't be a stranger!"
The guys start to follow Jocelyn. They surround her and Samuel stands up, trying to think about what he should do.
Bully- "Why do you keep acting like you're too good for me? I'm a nice guy when I wanna be."
Jocelyn- "Get away from me."
Bully- "Nah. I wanna know what's the deal."
Samuel- "Leave her alone!"
The guys turn and look at Samuel.
Bully- "What'd you say, dork?"
Samuel- "Leave her alone."
The Bully walks up in Samuel's face.
Bully- "Or what, Samuel?"
Samuel- "I'll beat you jerk-offs up."
The Bully punches Samuel hard in the face, knocking him down. The guys jump Samuel. Jocelyn watches in shock and horror.
Bully- "(Laugh) Well, it looks like you're the one that got beat up. Fuck this geek."
The guys tower over Samuel while he's still on the ground covering his face. Samuel looks up at them.
Samuel- "(Sobbing) No, please don't-"
The guys piss on Samuel, Samuel covers his face as he cries of humiliation, and Jocelyn watches in disgust and shock. An 18 year old Victor Marco is walking by and he sees the conflict going on.
Victor- "Hey! Get away from him!"
Victor is running over to the area.
Bully- "Shit, it's Victor! Run!"
The guys run away from the area and Victor stops next to Samuel and Jocelyn.
Victor- "I catch you punks around these guys again, I'm gonna kick all y'all asses!"
Jocelyn walks over to Samuel. Samuel still has his face covered.
Jocelyn- "Samuel, are you okay?"
Samuel shrugs away Jocelyn. Victor walks over to Samuel and Jocelyn.
Victor- "I saw what happened. You guys okay?"
Jocelyn- "Yes, but I don't know about him."
