Izuku POV

One year ago

Bakugo Katsuki. The biggest asshole in my school. He is unfortunately my bully. It's been that way for 12 years. He always got praised for what I couldn't accomplish. He has such a powerful quirk that everyone adored him for. While I'm quirkless. Even though I was physically fit and knew my way around the hand-to-hand combat, I was always brushed off to the side. That is the way life is I suppose. Everyone who doesn't have a quirk nowadays is always set to the side. After Kacchan was done with my pummeling for the day I headed home. It's emotionally and physically draining. I don't think I'd be able to go through it again if I'm honest. That's why I took a long way home. However, the sight I saw while I walked through the door made me feel farther from home than ever before.

My mother, Inko Midoryia, the only light in my life, was dead. Her eyes were void of any emotion. Lifeless. I felt tears run down my cheeks. Everything that I had ever loved, gone. No goodbyes, no warnings. Just like that, gone. All of the pain I had endured up to this point was nothing compared to this. A knife was sticking out of her like a foreign object. An intruder. I wished for all of it to be a dream. Yet it isn't, because if it was a dream I'd be able to bring her back. However, I can't. No matter how hard I tried or pleaded, I couldn't bring her back. I called the police Panicking and shaking. Out of the corner of my eye, a man runs out of my back door. The one who killed my mother. As The phone was ringing I vowed that one day I would find him, and make him suffer as I did.

Izuku POV
——————————

Six months ago, I decided to move away from the city. The emotional stress was too much to bear. I now live on the other side of Japan. Recently, I've been looking into my mother's murder and found out it wasn't some random break-in like the police had originally thought. She was a secretary and assistant to underground mobs and villains. I don't want to think about what she had done for us to survive.

In more uplifting news, I opened a small cafè under my apartment. I had to use the money from my mom's will to set it up. I'm trying my hardest to keep it afloat. However today I closed it, she needs to be the only thing on my mind right now, as it's already been a year since she died.

Time skip

Her grave had an eerie beauty. Flowers had started blooming and grass had already engulfed her grave. I set down some roses. She had always liked them growing up. How something so beautiful could hurt so much. That's how I feel. The silence echoed out throughout the graveyard. All except for the crows. I felt them follow me all the way here. Those beady-eyed harbingers of death. You'd think her name etched in stone. Perhaps her death date was written under her name. You'd be wrong. The only thing that makes this so real and unavoidable are the damn crows.
