For the first time in so long, Skye had truly felt like she was home.

Caregiver after caregiver, none of them could take her in for long. They'd pick her up from the wilderness, take her in for months, sometime a year. Then, she was back out on her own again, left to fend for herself in an island that only grew more hostile every day. No matter how kind her caretakers were, she was always left alone in the end.

Then, Midas had picked her up from the bridge of Weeping Woods without hesitation, and she truly believed things would be different.

E.G.O—she swore the organization's name was familiar, but it didn't matter. It was easy to learn that the people she had been brought amongst worked a dangerous job, and being around their base wasn't exactly paradise, always targeted by various enemies. The situations weren't anything the agents couldn't handle, of course, but to be safe, she was sent to live with Journey.

From day one, she knew that these people would protect her. The gazes she caught proved it as they eased into letting her hang around again, and that was all that mattered.

One year turned into two, and then, suddenly five. Yet five years of a home, of a family had been taken away in a matter of seconds.

The Device, they called it, Midas and Jules. It was the only thing the former talked about throughout the year. He talked about things that she couldn't quite grasp—the loop, the simulation, the storm... it would break it all, he claimed. Everything would be free.

He had shown her the blueprints. A large contraption, a sphere in the center. Hatches installed in the river surrounding the Agency. Even if she understood none of it, she supported him, and before the construction, he vowed to always do the same for her.

Then, an hour earlier in the present, a small team had run into The Shark. Today had been the day they were waiting for, when The Device would rise from the underground and fight the storm. It would break the loop, the simulation. Then, as soon as it had finished, all communications to The Agency had been cut, and a team went out to investigate.

"He's SHADOW," Maya breathed. "The Agency, all of the henchmen... they're all SHADOW."

It had taken her a moment to process her words; she didn't want to believe it. "Midas?" She asked, her voice coming out in a hoarse whisper. She looked to Maya pleadingly, begging for it to not be the case, and Maya hesitated. But with only a firm nod, Skye could feel her world crashing down.

He had started acting distant, but she didn't think much of it at first. She would ask if everything was alright—it started with the same reassuring answers, until it slowly turned to quiet, unconvincing nods. Then there was nothing, never a response, so she'd confide in Jules, the woman she had grown to love like a sister.

One day, she never saw her again, except for once or twice before Doomsday. Even then, it was only for minutes, her shirt bearing the symbol of SHADOW every time. Sometimes, she'd even be wearing a mask, and Skye could barely recognize her as she brisked through the halls, eyes shining with disdain those last times.

"It was inevitable," Midas had told her when she asked about it. She wanted more, but it was no use—at this point, he would only ever give vague answers, so she turned to TNTina.

Tina was always easy to bond with, and it was no surprise they became best friends quick as lightning after Skye had officially been activated. They'd share laughs over cartoons and comics, compete with each other in video games, and even abandon their duties to have movie nights at the other's base (without telling Midas, of course).
