Pulling up to the massive college university I stared at it for a second. For it to be so big and vintage looking, Union Prep, was a fairly young school seeming as though it's only been up and running for twenty-three years now.

It's founder being Matthew Henson.

My father.

Of course he didn't come up with the dream on his own, my grandfather original started the dream of opening a college since his dreams went further than just being a professor but he never had the chance to make it real so my father did it for him.

In 1995 my father gathered investors, resources and a few loans and created Union Prep, which I now worked part time at.

Under my father's gracious supervision of course.

Releasing a heavy breath I shook my wandering thoughts from my head and checked my phone. 11:00am. "Shit." I quickly snatched my bag from the passenger seat and hopped out of my car, running into the university I ran all the way to my father's classroom.

By the time I made it there I was only a couple minutes late for class to start so I wasn't too worried about making a scene by coming in late. Walking in I sat down at my student-teacher desk next to my father's, and began my work.

I finished some last minute paper work for him but mostly I spent my time grading past assignments, reading emails and organizing while my father taught.

Once I had finished with my student teacher responsibilities, I followed along with the rest of my father's lecture. Not because I had to be learning but because I had nothing else to do, occasionally though I did have to give the class an answer if no one knew it.

Using the mini whiteboard I had I would write the right answer on the board and hold it up for the class to see --while also keeping it hidden from my father, most of the students who saw laughed in amusement while others thanked me.

"The Darfur Genocide began in Western Sudan in 2003, Professor Henson." a redheaded girl, who had read my board, said with a thankful smile causing my father to dart his attention to me.

"Charlotte," He gave a disapproving sigh.

"What?... I didn't do anything." I shrug and start drawing on my board.

"Hey! Hey wait up!!" a voice called as I walked down the hall, stopping I turned around to come face to face with the redheaded girl from my father's class. "Hi --uh, what do you need?" I say slightly confused making her smile widen.

"I just wanted to say thanks for your help back there."

"Oh it was no problem really."

"Still thanks." She repeated making me smile in return, "Glad to help." after I said that she waved before walking off, allowing me to continue down the hallway.

Going down the hall I turned and went to walk down another when I ran into Kira. She was in a simple outfit, just a flannel, white tee and denims jeans, while her brown hair was tied into a ponytail behind her head and her arms held a stack of books.

Kira --unlike myself-- was a student here at Union Prep. She was an undecided attendee while I had simply decided to give college a two year wait until I knew what I wanted to do, giving me enough to venture out into the world and explore so when I did come back to the thought of college I would know the exact direction of my life.

Kira on the other hand just jumped right in. No plan, no direction, just a scholarship and a wide range of majors --of course this wasn't too out of the blue for her since she'd always been the 'act now think later' type.

"Charlie!" Kira's hand waved in front of my face, pulling me from my thoughts. "Huh?" I say dazed making her laugh "nothing Char, I was just saying how I was looking for you." She shrugged, adjusting her books in her arms.

"Looking for me... why?"

"Nothing serious, my mom was just telling me about the barbecue slash family get together she was throwing and I didn't want to be stuck there by myself so I was going to invite you to make it bearable." Kira sighed.

Kira's family was from Puerto Rico, and one thing I've learned from our years of friendship was that her family was big, loud and a unpredictable handful when plied with alcohol.

"Of course I'll go, when is it?" I ask "it's tomorrow at two," She hopefully responded. "Okay I guess I'll go, but keep King away from me."

"YES!!!" She happily exclaimed and did a small happy dance.

"I love you so much, Charlie!!"

"Yeah, yeah whatever... I've gotta go." I laugh.

"Me too." Kira said before we hugged. "Bye Kira, smush Sega's face for me!!" I yell back to her as I walked out of the building.

I was done with work for the day.

Walking across the parking lot to my car, I had just gotten in when I got a text from Kira.

Kira: fashion advice-- wear something bright tomorrow!

Me: um Kira I'm not a fashion disaster so you don't need to tell me what to wear.

Kira: yeah but you are kind of bleak when it comes to clothes.

Me: oh whatever.

Kira: it's whatever now, but if you come and you're not in bright colors I'm beating your ass.

What is this woman talking about? She can barely see a spider without freaking out.

Me: yeah okay.

Kira: I mean it, Char.

Me: bye Kira.

Kira: bye brat.
