I woke up early the next morning feeling refreshed. Ethel was still sleeping, huddled close to me. Carefully, I got out of bed and went to the window in between my bed and Ethel’s bed. It was freezing as the sun hadn’t come up yet, but the clouds and sky were different shades of pink and orange. It was beautiful. I went to wake Ethel as we very rarely saw skies like that. Miss Thompson will come and wake everyone up soon anyway.

“Ethel. Ethel wake up!” I whispered.

“What?” Ethel asked, still half asleep.

“Come quickly. You need to see this,” I urged.

While rubbing her eyes, Ethel followed me to the window. For a moment she just stood and stared, mouth open and eyes wide.

“That is so pretty,” she said.

“It’s the most amazing sky I’ve ever seen,” I replied.

For the next 10 minutes we just stood there watching the sky turn from pink to purple to blue as the sun rose.

Soon Miss Thompson came with her pot and spoon to wake us up, so we left the window and got ready for breakfast.

I was looking through the newspaper in the early afternoon. There were so many articles about politics so I skipped through half of it. I found a page with the title ‘Available Jobs’. I looked through this area and found one for help on a farm. It said that you would have to live there as you are required to get up early every day.

I went over to Evelyn and Ruby and told them about it.

“I’ve always liked animals, especially horses,” said Ruby.

“I agree, that’s not a bad idea,” agreed Evelyn.

“I wouldn’t come with you though,” I said looking at my feet.

“Why?” they asked.

“I just would not be able to get up so early every day and work all day. I just couldn’t do that,” I looked up to see how they reacted. They looked sad.

“Oh,” Evelyn said, “We’ll think about it.”

I went to Ethel's bed where she was playing with her teddy. When I approached she looked up and smiled.
