Quit

Chanyeol closed his eyes and let out a heavy sigh as he felt the drops of hot water hit his skin, steam filling up the bathroom and fogging up the mirror. He just let it run through his body to relax his tensed muscles, maybe even his tensed mind.

“I’ll forgive you eventually, but I don’t think it’s going to be anytime soon.”

Words of his conversation earlier with Baekhyun had been repeating nonstop in his head, bothering him even when he tried so hard to shun it away. It was almost eight o’clock when he went out of his bedroom with puffy, red eyes, which to no surprise was exactly what his best friend looked like.

Chanyeol still couldn’t think rationally after what happened that afternoon, and even more than the fact that he had to deal with the guilt he felt for saying bad things about Baekhyun and sabotaging his plans, he wondered what state he was supposed to be in with Haeun and where he was going to stand.

Was she alright? What ran through her brain when Chanyeol confessed about being jealous? Will she really quit the tutoring thing just because she didn’t want him to have problems involving her?

It was incredible how despite all the bullshit that Chanyeol blurted out loud and Haeun turning away from him, he cared so much about her thoughts.

Chanyeol sighed once more and turned the shower off; grabbing the robe he hung up next to the sink and wore it so he could out. It was already past midnight when he checked the time on his phone the moment he stepped into his bedroom, and he proceeded to change into comfortable clothes to at least help him sleep properly that night.

“I tried to keep my own emotions in, believe me.” Chanyeol mumbled. “I guess it was just too late when I realized that I wanted to do the same thing you’re doing.”

“There are plenty of girls at school who likes you just the same, Chanyeol.” Baekhyun shook his head. “Why does it have to be her?”

“I don’t know, you tell me.” Chanyeol said, a little bit upset that Baekhyun still wasn’t backing down from the fight. “Did you plan your feelings for her and wrote it down? Was it scheduled?”

Baekhyun didn’t answer.

“I didn’t mean for it to happen. I just woke up one day and thought about what it would be like to have her.”

Chanyeol huffed and threw himself on the bed, really hoping that sleepiness would come to him soon so he could wake up tomorrow on time and discard the tardiness for a change. Maybe that could take his mind off things for a moment, but he promised himself that he would deal with them face to face when he got back on his natural train of thought.

“We’re best friends and I know we shouldn’t fight over one person.” Baekhyun muttered firmly. “But I gave her time, and if she doesn’t say no, I suggest you find another girl worth fighting for. Someone you’d think about without splitting out friendship apart.”

“How much...” Chanyeol asked. “How much time did you give her?”

“There’s no need to know.”

He turned his head and saw his white sweater next to the pile of reviewers that Haeun handed him that afternoon, neatly folded on his study desk. Chanyeol didn’t even know why he set it there instead of stashing it in his dresser like he was supposed to do, but perhaps it was just that teeny tiny part of him that wanted to be reminded of her every minute, even before he closed his eyes and travelled to dream land.

“What happens if she says no?” Chanyeol questioned, furrowing his eyebrows at Baekhyun.

“Then it’s over.” Baekhyun answered softly. “But if it would make her happy, I have absolutely no right to go against it.”
