A dreadful morning

Waking up for school had become a drag even more than it used to be. Personally I didn't see a need to even go. I seemed to know more than all the other students there, not to mention mornings just weren't something I enjoyed. I still laid in bed as I listened to my alarm continue to ring next to my ear. I eventually pressed the off button. I continued to lay on my bed staring at the ceiling, pondering if I was even going to get up and go to school. Perhaps I could fake being ill to get out of the stress of leaving my bed for the day. Then I realized I already used that card last week, I wouldn't have the same opportunity again.  I sighed as I finally got out of bed.

I walked over to my closet and got dressed. I looked into the mirror. My appearance wasn't horrible, I was no model but I sure wasn't hideous.  Looking in the mirror I saw myself, skinny with small muscles, messy dark brown hair, and hazel eyes, pale skin since I never went outside. I placed on some shoes and walked downstairs, I got startled by a voice who called out my name.

"Ein! Are you going to eat before you head to school?" I looked over and saw my mother. A skinny, pale, and frail woman. She was already dressed in her scrubs ready to go to work. I looked at the kitchen counter she was standing by and noticed a plate on it. On the plate was some toast, eggs and bacon. Knowing my mother that plate of food was for me. Sadly though I had been slowly losing my appetite recently. I had half a mind to say no till I realized that would break her heart if I said no. She had already been going through so much because of dad, the last thing I wanted was for my poor mother to be worried that her son was going to stop eating. I sighed and decided I would take the food. I grabbed the plate, gave my mother a kiss and rushed out the door to my bus stop.

Once there I spotted my one and only friend, Anthony. He was one of the popular kids at my school and quite frankly I was still shocked that he associated with one of the quiet kids like me. Anthony was a charmer I guess you could say. The guy's goal is to befriend everyone he meets so of course he was a pain when I tried avoiding him last year. Now I kindly open my arms to the warmth that is this tall, tan, muscular, blonde hair and brown eyed dork.

"Ein! Hey! How's it going?" Anthony asked as he wrapped an arm around me. I am still asking myself how Anthony has this energy in the morning but I suppose it will remain one of the things I will never understand about him, like why he is so social.

"I'm fine. How are you?" I responded since responding to people is a common curtesy apparently. "I'm doing great. The bears have another football game today so I'm pumped." Anthony said as he put his fist in the air to indicate his excitement. Honestly I forgot that he was on our football team, that was one of the reasons he was popular I suppose, he played a sport.

"You coming to the game today Ein?" He asked as he looked me dead in the eyes and seemed to stare into my soul. "No." I said giving him a straight-forward answer. I wasn't one to beet around the bush or put things nicely. It wasn't that I was too busy to go to the game, It was simply that I didn't want to. Football games aren't my thing. A huge crowd, being loud and obnoxious, I would rather visit my mother's side of the family.

"Why not Ein?" Anthony asked all pouty with a quivering lip as if that was going to get me to change my answer. "I don't feel like going." I said as I checked my phone to see how much longer I was going to be stuck with Anthony before the bus got here. I had about 5 minutes.

"C'mon Ein, you might meet a cool girl there." Anthony said once again trying to change my mind.  Girls, personally I'd never given relationships much thought. Course I've admired females beauty from a far but I never considered being in a relationship with one.  I shook my head and thankfully the bus was here.

The reactions from students seeing me vs Anthony were complete opposites. Anthony got cheers, high-fives, greetings, smiles, and hand shakes and fist bumps. Meanwhile no one bothered to give me a second glance. I sat in the middle of the bus, the middle of the bus was where I belonged. Not at the front with the social rejects or nerds, but not in the back with the popular kids and jocks. The middle was perfect, I slouched in the seat as I put in some ear-buds so I could listen to my music.

Everything was fine till one of Anthony's friends, Ethan took one of my earbuds out to listen to my music.

"Dude, this guy's music sound like trash." Ethan said as he made a joke of me on the bus. His lame retort was followed by laughs from his obedient followers. Personally I didn't find it funny.

"You're as funny as you make yourself out to be." I said as I grabbed my earbud he had taken from me.

"What did you just say to me idiot?" Ethan said as he looked down on me. I rolled my eyes as I put my earbud back in to ignore everyone and block out their noise. But I could hear Ethan say to his friend group.

"That's what I thought." After awhile the bus arrived at the school. I grabbed my bag and rushed out since I didn't wanna be in that crowded area any longer.  I sat down in my homeroom classroom, It honestly was my favorite out of all of them because of the teacher. Mr.Wayne had a way with words that made me feel like he understood me better than anyone else. He pulled up a chair in front of my desk and decided to begin small talk with me.

"Hello Ein, how was your weekend?" He asked peering over at the paper I was writing on. "Same old, same old." I responded focused on trying to remember the date. "Same goes for me kid. By the way it's February 1st." I smiled at the teacher as I wrote the date. His class began, I took the notes and continued on with my day everything was pretty much a blur till lunch. I went to the library for peace of mind till I saw a group of popular kids in their. I decided to wander the halls aimlessly till I looked out a window. I noticed a girl sitting alone, reading a book. I got curious and decided to go outside, it was kind of strange to see kids on the field during lunch.  As I walked over to her I tried grabbing her attention.

"Hey!" But she didn't even flinch. "Hello!" Still nothing by then I was standing behind the girl and it seemed like she was ignoring me. I grabbed her shoulder and she instantly flinched. She looked at me and turned something next to your ear.

"Y'know it's not that nice to ignore people." I said with my hands crossed. She turned her head and pointed at her ear to show me her hearing aid. I ridiculously tried to make an apology in sign language even though I didn't know how to sign.  She giggled.

"Lucky for you I can talk, and I have the hearing aid for the purpose to allow me to hear." She said smiling getting up from the grass with the book in hand. The girl pulled a piece of her black hair out of her face. She wore round glasses and had dark brown eyes. Then I realized who she was. Her name was Mira and she was some girl that Ethan and Anthony had a crush on, I heard them all the time talking about her on the bus. They definitely had their different ways to describe her.  Ethan liked to objectify her meanwhile Anthony enjoyed talking about her good deeds.

"So what are you doing out here, don't you have friends to eat lunch with?" I asked her as she smiled at me.

"Of course. But they prefer to eat in the cafeteria during lunch and that place is too loud for my sensitive ears. So I usually stay in the library but since there is a meeting in their for football and cheer practice I came out here. " Thinking about it I kind of understood where she was coming from. I could only imagine that having such sensitive ears in the cafeteria would be a nightmare.

"What about you, don't you have any friends to hangout with right now?" I chuckled nervously at Mira's question but shook my head.

"Don't have any friends." I said awkwardly. She gave me this look as if I were crazy. "Tsk. Tsk. Well that simply won't do. You're my friend now, come sit with me, it's peaceful." Mira said pointing at me with the biggest grin. She then sat down and I followed her lead. She laid down on the grass and looked at the clouds. I did the same and I could see why she enjoyed it so much, it actually felt surprisingly peaceful. I looked to my left to see her face still focused on the clouds moving past us. She smiled at the sight and I found myself smiling too. I don't know what it was about this girl but she was comforting to me. It was a feeling I haven't felt in a long time. I didn't wanna lose this feeling. Something about this encounter with Mira was making me realize that today wasn't going so bad after all.
