A kitten under five weeks old will have to to still drink milk. Now this in not the same milk that you can find in the fridge, it is special mild, only for kittens. Now some of you might be saying, "But cats can't drink milk, they are lactose intolerant!" and if you said that you would be right, adult cats can't.
But kittens can. This is because they don't need to anymore as they are being weened onto solid food, so they generally loose this ability, as they don't need it anymore.
Kittens can still drink milk when they are young however. Below you can find how much your kitten should be drinking per serving.
0 Weeks - (keep in mind, you need to be very careful when feeding them, because they don't have a gag reflex, they will also need to be syringe fed with a kitten nipple on the end) - They need to be fed every two hours.
1 Week Old - They should be eating every two to three hours and be eating 6-10ml per meal of kitten formula
2 Weeks Old - They should be fed every 3-4 hours and be eating 10-14ml per meal of kitten formula
3 Weeks Old - They should be eating every 4-5 hours and be eating 14-18ml per meal of kitten formula
4 Weeks Old - They should be eating every 5-6 hours and they should be eating 12-22ml per meal of kitten formula
Weening Age!
5 Weeks Old - Now the kitten can eat solid food (AKA wet kitten food), you can try to introduce it to them by mixing it in their kitten formula, slowly getting it more consecrated though the week until you just put some in a bowl with a little water, or you may want to just give them a bowl. Be prepared, the second way may mean it will take the kitten longer to ween onto wet kitten food.
A kitten this old should be fed every six hours, they will be eating either the wet kitten food formula mix (it smells) or the wet food with a bottle offered as well. They can also be introduced to shallow bowl of water.
6 Weeks Old - They should now just be eating wet food, however if your kitten is still weening, follow the normal process. They should be fed every six hours. They can also independently eat food and drink water.
7 Weeks Old - The kitten should be fed every 6-8 hours with wet kitten food.
8 Weeks Old - A kitten this old can be fed wet kitten food three times a day!
