I was trembling from the cold. There were icicles hanging from my tent and snow was lightly falling from the sky. I was only 5 years old and homeless. I had always been poor but this winter was the worst. My dad had lost his job and my mom had always been unemployed. I guess you could say I had an "awesome" life!
"Mommy? Daddy?" I had whimpered
"Yes honey?" Mom said.
"Are we gonna die? Why are we in this tent? Why is it so cold?"
"Baby... We are just poor. I promise soon that we will have our lives figured out and we will live somewhere beautiful." My dad whispered, avoiding my other questions.
Later that night I had huddled in my sleeping bag, trying to sElle warm. My lips were blue and I was breathing in short puffs of air. I felt my eyelids shutting and I let them. I was asleep right as they fully closed.
"Oh god!" I muttered as I burst out of bed. I was having that dream more often than not nowadays. I had been incredibly poor for most of my life but then the miracle happened. I found out that my step uncle had died (who I had never met) and we got his fortune! We were now billionaires and we lived in beautiful florida!
"Good morning Ms. Walters." My butler Bruce said to me, "What would you like for breakfast today?"
"Hmm... I think I will take some avocado toast and iced tea." I smiled.
"Of course, miss."
Today was the last day of 12th grade and I was pumped! I had gone to the mall the day before and bought all of my school supplies and outfits for next year! I chose to wear a pair of super cute sunglasses, a turquoise bucket hat, some grey sweatpants, a turquoise cropped tank top, and a Nike windbreaker. One of my classics. I put my waist length, wavy auburn hair into a high ponytail and coated my brown eyes with a tiny smidge of mascara. I slipped into a pair of high top black Chuck Jordans and walked downstairs where my food was ready for me.
"Thanks Bruce!" I began, "It looks amazing!"
"Your welcome miss." He said back to me rather formally.
Pretty soon I was in my fancy car that my aunt Stephanie had bought for me. I found that driving was something that really calmed me down. I had my Jansport black backpack on the leather seat next to me. After about 5 minutes I saw the front doors of Jordans High School.
"Valentina!!" My best friend Elle yelled from halfway across the quad,
"COME OVER HERE!"
I parked my car and speed walked over to Elle and she was literally draped over her boyfriend, Duke.
"Hey girl!" I started, "What did you do last night?"
"Not much... I went to the movies and then went home." She sighed.
"Nice."
I heard the first bell ring for the day, meaning that we had 5 minutes until the class started. When I looked back at Elle she was kissing Duke goodbye. I waved and went to math class. Mr. Carter was at the front of the class looking as strict as ever.
"Hello class." He said, "As you know we are having a short day today. I am not going to give you any work today so you can go on your phones or just get a computer."
I saw Jessica Newberry making YouTube videos over in the back of the class with some of her other friends. I took out my phone and texted my boyfriend, Jake.
"Hey babe. What are u doin?" I texted.
He responded immediately with, "Mr. Winkle is letting us do whatever we want... I love the last day of school haha."
"Haha."
"Hey babe, do you want to go to the beach after school 2day?"
"Um... YEA, u skateboarded to school today right?"
"Yea."
"I can drive you over to my house and we can change."
"Purfect!"
We texted until the bell rang for our passing period. I walked over to my next class. Jake had always kept a swimsuit at my house just in case we wanted to go to the beach and he had brought his skateboard. Today the classes were about 30 minutes long so I had a lot of free time. I decided to keep myself busy by doing my summer homework so I would be able to relax the whole summer. Little did I know that my summer would not be just lounging by my pool the whole time.
