"Have you ever thought about just leaving everything behind?"
"Just getting up one day and packing a small bag and leaving this place, have you?" The short girl shook her head "No, there's too much here to leave behind. Our parents, my sister, our friends"
"You're right" the Chinese girl fixed her bangs and tugged at her hoodie "It's getting late, we should probably go"
It wasn't the first time the younger girl had expressed something similar. She was an energy that refuses to be contained. An enigmatic being that craves to be free, carried by anywhere life takes her. And it was obvious that she was not happy or at least satisfied being stuck in a small town like where they live.
"You have me Yuqi, you know that right?" The girl only smiled and fixed the short girl's glasses on her face, taking a short second to admire the blonde's face
"I know"
It was a couple of days after their little talk that they found themselves in the same little hill overlooking the tiny town. It has become a habit for the two friends to spend the hours after their classes just de-stressing and hanging out. Sometimes their other friends would join them but due to the three older girls being Seniors, they were busy preparing for exams and Shuhua would rather cling onto Soojin than "third-wheel" as she likes to call it
"Can you imagine living in Seoul? There are so many people and foreigners staying there! And the cafe- God, the cafe's are so pretty! I can definitely picture myself staying there for hours" Soyeon listened as she flips another page of the book she was holding
It was normal for Yuqi to ramble on about her musings and Soyeon would keep an open ear as she studies. How the girl always manages to do that, Yuqi could only wonder.
"I wish we could just leave all of this behind and start over somewhere new, you know, somewhere like-"
"Like Seoul?" The girl nodded excitedly. Soyeon took note of the light in the girl's eyes as she chuckled at her excitement. Yuqi reminded her of a puppy, an adorable one.
"That place is hours away, Woogi. And how will you afford the transportation?" Yuqi frowned as Soyeon's words hit her with realization. She didn't have any job. She wouldn't be able to get one either, no matter how hard she tried because her parents were strict people. The Song family's tradition had always been to whip the younger generation to shape so that they could become someone great like a successful doctor or a well-known lawyer.
And Yuqi's parents remained indifferent. It was their greatest wish for their only child to become a surgeon and they were hell-bent on making it happen after leaving the confines of comfortable China and moving to Korea for a fresh start.
Since Yuqi was a child, she had been subjected to different forms of teaching. She was homeschooled, took extra classes, joined extracurricular activities, and different kinds of lessons. She used to enjoy doing those things until she was beaten one day after failing to snag first place in a music contest. Her father had smashed her guitar to pieces right in front of her and that traumatized young Yuqi who spent the rest of the day locked up and crying.
"I'll make it happen" Soyeon smiled at the younger girl's words. She could see Yuqi's resolve and she knew that it would happen. The younger girl would make it happen and that thought scared her.
She wasn't ready to see Yuqi leave.
