Naniri was bored. She was at her desk, doing homework. How much more stupid could you possibly get having your first night on a starship be, she thought. And it was the freaking Enterprise! She was, after all, a genius. Seventeen years and already an aknowleged scientist. One of the youngest to ever serve on a starship this big. She and her brother. She was even the protegee of Mister Spock himself. But this - this was incredibly unfair. She hadn't even got a glimpse of the Captain!"Miss Sulu, aknowledge on the bridge." She jumped at her name. Finally! Dressing hurriedly into her uniform, (She had been doing homework in her pajamas) Naniri made her way to the bridge, and had to fight the urge to run. She stepped out of the turbolift and caught Hikaru's glance. He grinned and waved. They were very different. He was good-looking, a fencer, top notch pilot. His skin was tanned naturally, and even more so from being out in the sun. He had black hair and eyes to match. He also looked much older than his sister for some reason, even though it was only a matter of two years. Naniri, on the other hand, was also good-looking, but in a different way. She was a genius, an amazing physichian. Her skin was paler but still recognisably asiatic, her hair was jet-black and long. She was often described as delicate, but really Naniri was very talented at Judo. This often came as a suprise, and she knew to take advantage of that.
"So, you're Sulu's sister?" The Captain grinned, sitting in his chair not really doing anything. "Yes, Sir," Naniri answered, wondering the excact same thing the Captain said aloud. "So, if you're both named Sulu, what will I call you?" Kirk's brow furrowed, and he looked so comical Naniri had to supress a giggle. "I-I do not know, Sir..." She felt Spock's eyes on her, and tried her best to act professional, which was hard, as Kirk looked incredibly funny. "Hm... We seem to be in a bit of a pickle here... Spock, surely you've got something we can do?" The Vulcan turned, looking what Naniri could best describe as smug. "In the sircumstance that two members of the crew should have the same surname, it would be logical to call them by their first names, Captain." His face was perfectly neutral, but something in his voice made Naniri sure that Spock found the situasion most amusing. "Right you are, Mister Spock. Miss Sulu, would you mind telling me your first name?" He smiled, and she smiled back, before saying "Naniri, Sir." Kirk grinned. "Naniri it is. I called you to the bridge so that you could meet your work-partner. Naniri, this is Mister Chekov." A guy with curly brown hair and big blue eyes stepped forth. "Good dey. Zo, you ar ze girl I will be vorking with? Nize to meet you. I em Chekov." He had a strong russian accent, and Naniri noted that he couldn't be much older than herself, and that he was kinda cute. "Hi," she muttered, suddenly feeling shy. "Yeah, I'm Sulu." Chekov gawked. "Sulu? Eez Heekaru your broter or somezing?" She giggled and answered "Yes, we're siblings. You know Hikaru?"

After a while, the two got along well. They found that they were similar in many ways. They were both young geniuses, both working as physichians, both were very fond of the 21.century music genre dubstep. Naniri began her work with Chekov, trying to improve the ship's navigation system. They would meet up with friends and eat together in the cantine, or go to parties aboard together, but always as close friends. They let eachother in on everything, secrets and fears and hopes. Naniri was beginning to feel some strange things towards Chekov. She soon found herself thinking of him as more than a friend.
------
The Khan incident. Everything was falling apart, they were tumbling towards Earth, where was Chekov? He was in Engineering, Naniri thought, and fear coiled in her. "What if," she thought. "What if we die, and I never got to tell him?" She made up her mind in seconds. "Captain, permission to help in Engineering?" She shouted over the creaking of the ship.Where, where, where? Naniri tore through the ship, trying to find him. There he was, tapping desperately at a control panel. "Pavel!" She called, and he turned. She walked up to him, and the world slowed down. Her hand drifted up to his cheek, cupping it gently. "Pavel," she said again, softly. She had never used his first name. "Niri," he replied. She wasn't sure who covered the last distance, but they kissed. His lips were soft and warm. It felt like nothing else existed but Pavel as he raised a hand to her neck, dragging her close. They broke apart, and Naniri noticed that she was crying. "Pavel, I'm scared." Her voice was but a strained whisper. "I know," he said. "I kent fix eet, but I ken fix you." He held her close for a moment. "But now I hev to fix ze sheep." She nodded.

Kirk's speech was great, and Naniri stood beside her brother watching. As it ended, she clapped with everyone else. Pavel stood a couple of places to her left, and she turned to look at him. He spotted her, and smiled. They all dispatched, and Hikaru went to speak to Uhura. Pavel and Naniri were left alone, and she looked up, blushing. "Em, Niri, do yo vant to... Go out wiz mee?" Pavel blushed pink, looking down. She smiled. "Of course!" He lit up. "Zo, vaht about we meet heere at tventy-hundred hours?" She nodded and stepped close. Taking a hint, Pavel reached for her hand, and their fingers entwined. Standing on tiptoe, Naniri tilted her head slightly and their lips met. It was just like the first time, sweet and soft. He smelled and tasted like apples and liqoruice. They didn't notice when Hikaru turned from where he stood a few metres away, gawking as Uhura made a sort of squealing noise. Spock was stoic as usual, but his lips turned up slightly. Kirk laughed loudly, making them jump apart, blushing madly. "Ehh... Hikaru?" Naniri was afraid of Chekov possibly meeting the Wrath Of The Mad Brother. But Hikaru smiled and nodded slightly, and the anxiousness eased. "Meet you here, then!" He beamed. "Yez, I look forvard to zat."
