As I'm sure you can imagine, waking up to Ronald Weasley, violently shaking me was a bit alarming. It was also surprising that George Weasley, who Courtney had been sleeping on, did not wake up due to this fact. It was also a bit unfair. "Courtney, you said I could wake you up when it was time to go to the trolley." Ron looked at me with a happy expression. I glared back at him, "So you thought that imitating an earthquake was the best way to go about it?" Ron sheepishly smiled, "I'm sorry, we should get a move on though." As I begrudgingly got up from my comfortable place on George Weasley's shoulder, I looked down at him.
George had changed over the summer. His hair was longer and styled differently, he seemed to have even more freckles (if that was humanly possible), and he was much broader and more muscular than he was last year. It must've been all of the quidditch training he had done over the summer, I thought to myself. Based on these thoughts, you'd probably assume that I'm in love with George, and in a way, I am. Deep, deep, deep down inside I am, anyways. He's my best friend and I would never want to ruin our friendship, and he's also never shown interest. So, I suppress the feeling and go on with my life. Anyways, there's always Oliver Wood to fantasize about.
As I walked out of my train compartment with Ron, Fred yelled at me, "Hey clumsy, don't trip anywhere out there, it's not even the first day of classes yet." I glared at him and flipped him off while he just laughed.
"What are you going to get from the trolley?" Ron asked me. "Oh, I'm not sure, probably some pumpkin pasties and some sugar quills. " "Oh okay, I'll probably get a chocolate frog." As I turned to ask a Ron a question, I ended up running face first into someone and falling directly on my ass. Great, Fred is going to have a big laugh over this, I thought to myself.
"Courtney are you ok?" God, I would recognize that voice anywhere. It was the voice of Oliver Wood, Quidditch Captain, my co-captain, the hottest guy at Hogwarts, and my crush of 5 years. He was a year older than me, and completely out of reach. Dating Oliver was a dream, one that would never come true. I was pretty sure that he just saw me as one of his stronger teammates, one that he needed to win games. Of all the people I had to slam into, why did it have to be him?
As Ron stood by laughing his ass off, Oliver kept profusely apologizing to me, when it was in no way his fault. "It's all good Oliver, no need to apologize, I'm fine and it was my fault in the first place." "Okay good, I can't be injuring my co-captain" He offered me a warm smile and helped me up. "Thank you, and yup, you'd be lost without me." He grinned and said, "I sure would." "We're going have a great season this year." I laughed, "For sure, we're definitely going to win the Quidditch Cup." "With us as captains, definitely!" Oliver looked at me with a nervous look on his face, "We should practice sometimes just the two of us." "Yeah, okay. I could for sure use the extra practice." "Well, I'll see you later at the feast, save me a seat." Oliver waved goodbye, and Ron and I continued on our way to the trolley.
"You have a crush on Wood!" Ron practically screamed. "Ron. Shut up. Could you be any louder? He literally just walked away two seconds ago." "Sorry, sorry. I just hadn't realized it until now. I could totally see it though, you two would make a cute couple." I rolled my eyes at him while secretly loving the comment, "No, I don't know what you're talking about. He's Oliver Wood. I'm just me." Ron laughed, "I'm pretty sure he likes you too. Oh no, ex-boyfriend alert, Neville's in line for the trolley too. Do you want to go back to the compartment?" "No, it's fine. We ended on good terms."
I had dated Neville my fourth year, being a year older than him he was shocked I liked him in the first place. We were partners in Care of Magical Creatures and the relationship just seemed to happen one day. Fred and George constantly made fun of me for it. It wasn't the fact that Neville was ugly, he was actually strikingly handsome, he was just a bit on the nerdy side. In the end, our relationship had ended due to busy schedules, we hardly ever saw each other and ended up losing interest. We had ended on good terms though; we even wrote a few letters to each other over the summer about the various plants Neville was studying.
"Hey mate, it's good to see you, how was your summer?" Ron asked Neville, patting him on the back. "It was great, I learned loads about Herbology. I'm kind of obsessed now. Anyways, how were yours?" I smiled, "Mine was pretty great as well. I got to visit my grandmother in America, she lives in this place called California. My mom came with me and we spent most of our time seeing everything we could and checking out all the wizard shops and areas my grandmother shows us. Want to know something weird? They call muggles no-majs, what a funny name right?" Ron and Neville both laughed and said the name sounded ridiculous. "Well," Neville said, "I should be getting back to Ginny and Luna, I was supposed to bring them they're food a while ago. Lord knows they're probably snagging now. Poor Hannah has probably seen more than she wanted to." "Okay, see you later Neville!" Ron glanced at me, "Blimey, my sister is going to be the death of me. Also, I still can't get over how well you and Neville get along. I couldn't imagine being that friendly with an ex." "I guess it's just because our breakup was so civil."
Once we had gotten our food from the trolley, we headed back to the compartment. When we got there, we discovered George had finally woken up.
