One of my favorite things about Hogwarts was that every dorm, separate room, and common room had its own scent. The dorms were picked by the two people sharing it, and everyone's each individual room was unique to what they liked. I shared a dorm with Hermione and while her half smelled like lavender and roses, mine smelled like gingerbread. Our shared space of our dorm smelled like cinnamon apples, and the common room smelled like a mixture of cranberry, orange, and cinnamon. I started to unpack and wonder if Hermione really was that upset about losing the games of Uno, I could hear her aggressively unpacking through the walls.
I knocked on her door, "Hey, do you want to play a round of Uno with me?" She grinned, "Yeah, but I'm afraid I'm not very good." "Nonsense, I'm sure you'll beat me." Once she had won, she was over the moon. Back to her normal self, I had let her win, but honestly that was better for all of us.
The funny thing was that once we had started playing, Hermione talked a lot. She even confided something pretty big, she had been hooking up with Fred all summer. She said that she wasn't really sure how it started, there was just a night where they were both sitting on the couch in the burrow. Hermione was reading some romance novel, and Fred was just laying down. "What's even going on in that muggle book of yours?" Hermione blushed, she had been reading a particularly raunchy scene and just speaking the words out loud would've caused her to die of embarrassment. So, she handed the book to Fred and let him read for himself. He stared at her with a shocked look upon his face, "Have you done these things?" "No, no I only read about them. Have you?" Fred laughed, "No, I've always wanted to, like any other guy. Just haven't found that girl yet. I always wanted to try with someone I'm close to, maybe a friend." "Someone like me?" Fred looked at her and said "Yeah, exactly like you."
And since then, they had hooked up multiple times, mostly whenever they had free time or whenever Hermione took a break from studying. I don't think she could tell, but Fred was totally mad about her, almost directly after our Uno game, he came knocking with George to see if she was alright and to walk us to the Great Hall for dinner.
George smiled as we walked to dinner. "What are you so happy about?" "Just thinking about my new snow globe." I blushed, "I'm happy you like it that much." George smiled at me and kept on walking. Once we had gotten to the Great Hall, we all sat wherever. Houses didn't matter today, it wasn't until tomorrow, when the first years arrived that we had to worry about that. I sat at a table that had Harry, Draco, Ginny, Ron, Cedric, Hermione, Luna, Neville, Blaise, Fred, George, and Graham Montague. We were an odd friend group, but it worked. I made sure to save a seat for Oliver when I sat down. I ended up between Ron and George, with Graham sitting in front of me.
Graham had happened to have a crush on me for 2 years and never seemed to have gotten the hint that I wasn't interested.
"Hey Metcalfe, how was your summer?" "It was pretty good, and yours?" Graham grinned, "It was decent, would've been better if you were there to keep me company." While most would view this as a compliment, the way Graham said it just made me feel like I needed to take a shower. "Hey, Montague! Stop bothering Court, she doesn't give a shit about what disgusting thing you would've liked to have done this summer." Blaise yelled at him. Graham grew sheepish and just walked over to where a few of his other friends were sitting.
I felt a tap on my shoulder, it was Oliver.
"Hey, any seats left for me?" I smiled at him, "Saved you one right in front of me" Oliver smiled back, "Thanks, I appreciate it."
