James Potter awoke to a pounding headache and a singing Sirius Black. He quickly pulled his covers over his sore head and plugged his ears.
In his brief moment of silence, his mind wandered to the night before. He could remember pulling out the bottle of Fire Whiskey from his trunk and Remus's disappointed look as he did so. The after was a blur, flash memories of truth or dare left his head as soon as they came.
He was about to unplug his ears when a fuzzy memory appeared in his head. A girl whom he had never seen before holed up in the kitchens in the early hours of the morning. Belle Clement, the name felt strange as he tried to remember if she was real or just a strange, drunken dream.
James finally emerged from under his covers with a hand blocking the bright morning sun shining from the window across from his bed and the other sloppily reaching for the "hangover" potion that resided on his bedside table.
"Good morrow, princess!" Sirius exclaimed far too enthusiastic for someone who drank more than half the bottle, strutting towards James's bed. "You come back from Evans' room at quarter past four you dirty stag?"
"He wishes," Remus laughed, tightening the Gryffindor tie around his neck.
James glared at his friends as the last of the hangover potion trickled out of the vial and down his throat. Ignoring their commentary, he slowly slipped out of bed, grabbed his uniform and entered the bathroom. Emerging only moments later, he could feel the potion swirling in his stomach and his headache fading to nothing.
The dorm room was now empty, his friends must have headed to breakfast without him. Grumbling profanities under his breath about betrayal, he grabbed his book bag and made his way out of the dorm.
Exiting the common room and entering the hall, James scanned the faces of the students passing by, looking for the fuzzy face he remembered from the kitchens. He wasn't even sure why he cared so much, he wasn't even convinced she was real.
Moments later he slipped into the seat next to Sirius at the Gryffindor table, reaching out towards the tray of buttered toast.
"Do any of you lads know a girl named Belle Clement from our year?" He casually asked, placing the toasted bread on his plate. Sirius and Remus were in an animated conversation with Marlene McKinnon, leaving only a response from Peter.
"What house is she in?" Peter asked through a mouthful of breakfast.
"I dunno," James shrugged. "I can't even remember if she's real or not."
He quickly scanned the Great Hall, but there was no mystery girl in sight. Deciding it was most likely a dream, James pushed the thought out of his head and jumped into the conversation his friends were having.
"- and then Peter asked Minnie to marry him, while she was in her night gown!" Sirius spoke through his loud laughter while a very red Peter rolled his eyes.
"I'm glad you find my weeks detention amusing!" He grumbled.
"Godric, who said it was a good idea to drink on a weekday?" James questioned with a laugh.
"You!" Peter groaned with an accusing glare.
"Never pick dare with Sirius, it's not my fault you don't know the rules." James pointed out.
"I resent that statement." Sirius announced.
After a few minutes of reminiscing over the previous nights events, Remus stood from his place at the table.
"See you lot later," He bid, slinging his bag over his shoulder. "I promised Professor McClivert that I would help him set up for his first year DADA lesson."
"Such a saint, Moony," James sarcastically praised, earning him a flip off from Remus and a heavy laugh from Sirius.
His eyes followed Remus as he exited the Hall, noticing a head of fiery red hair greet Remus before heading towards the bustling Gryffindor table. And just like that, all thoughts of the mysterious Belle Clement were squashed as James sauntered over to the girl he knew was real.
"Oi Evans!"
