TW : MENTION OF RAPE & SMUT
As I stood out on Sarah Williams' lawn, I rethought everything that led me to the decision to go to this party.
I was never into all of this stuff, I enjoyed the simple things in life. Like drinking coffee, or watching reruns of Friends, or reading. God, I sound like such a loser.
For a junior in High school, I hadn't experienced a whole lot. Voluntarily, at least. I didn't get plastered every weekend like most of these people, and I hated the way that they talked to and about each other. That wasn't me at all. I liked being by myself or hanging out with my best and sometimes only friend, Drew. We met when we were five, and we've kinda been inseparable ever since. Over the years, literally, everyone in our town has thought we were together, which Drew and I find hilarious because it is so far from the truth. We just enjoy being around each other. We do everything together. We watch bad horror movies, we do our homework together, and we collect records at this cool store downtown.
My life hasn't always been great, but Drew has always been easy. He's always there for me when I need him, and I can talk to him anytime.
You're probably wondering why I, Emory Davis, even came to this party in the first place. As I said, I hate parties. I hate the noise, the drinking, and the jerks who go to these things. But the truth is, I am in love. Ever since the 9th grade, I've been in love with Julian Hall, the blue-eyed boy that every girl at one point or another has had a crush on. When I told Drew that Sarah was having this party, he learned that Julian would be there. So, we decided to come. At least I did.
I check my phone. It's 8: 45. He should be here by now.
I now realize that I have been standing on Sarah's lawn for almost ten minutes, staring at the ivory walls of her multi-million dollar house. It looks like something out of The Great Gatsby, only with a crowd of teenagers drinking beer and throwing shit at each other.
I sigh. It's time to go in.
I gain the strength to bring myself down the brick pathway, and up to the big white double doors that lead into the house. There's no need to knock, considering this is a party.
I open the doors, and I am immediately greeted by several boys who look drunk off their asses, asking me if I want a beer. Normally I would say no, but I needed some courage to talk to Julian.
"Sure, why not?", I say, nonchalantly
They hand me the classic red Solo cup, and I look in it to make sure there's nothing suspicious inside, even though they poured it from the keg in front of me. It seems like everything is clear, so I take a sip.
"Ugh, this tastes like piss", I quietly remark to myself
Beer at these parties is notoriously bad, but this shit tasted like battery acid.
I made my way out of the hall and into the kitchen, where I saw who I was looking for. Julian was behind the countertop, pouring what looked like Strawberry Svedka (ew) for people who were gathered around him. He was laughing, and talking to some girls who I had seen around school before. I waited until they left, and took another shot of the piss beer.
"Hi, Julian..., I'm Emory, I've seen you play at your basketball games before. You're really good."
Oh my god, I could not have sounded weirder. Let's just hope he says something back that's not as bad.
"Hi, Emory, I know who you are", he laughed.
"You do?" I replied, confused as to how he had even heard of me.
"Yeah, you're that kid, Drew's friend, right?"
"Yeah, I am. We've been friends for twelve years. Time flies when you're having the most fun of your life", I laughed.
