Sakura's POV

As the sky slowly turned pinky-yellow and the sun started dipping beneath the branches, I watched the fireflies twinkling around, like stars. I wondered if I would ever get out of this mess, this terrible, terrible mess. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to cry. The weight of the situation finally broke through the dam, now it crashed down on me. "What if- if I could convince my parents to let me stay on earth?" The thought was like a vine about to break, and I was the one holding on. I knew it would never happen. My parents were already ridiculed by our neighbors, 2 children without going to earth? That would be the peak of embarrassment.

Once more I became driven through my thoughts, forgetting all sense of time. Lights started turning off, the shops closed and everybody head home for a late dinner. Suddenly, I was pulled away by a mushroom lighting up in front of me. It scared the living heck out of me and made me realize how late it was. It seemed when I finally saw the night, I finally realized how cold it was. The wind blew but, not a chilling breeze on a hot summer day. It was a freezing gust on a cold winter night.

I got up, preparing to head home. "Hey, Saku! Where are you going?" A voice behind me asks, I recognized the voice, it was Himawari the sunflower spirit. Himawari was genderfluid so I had to look at her to see what she was today. As you can tell by the fact I was using she/her, she was a girl today.

"Hey, Hima. What are you doing out at this time?" I asked

Hima blinked, "You told me to meet here with you! And I almost forgot, so I'm here a bit late,"

I silently scolded myself, how could I forget the reason I was here? Hima and I were supposed to discuss what we are meant to do on earth! "Oh yeah! I totally forgot about that!" Hima stepped closer and sat down on the bench, she radiated warmth and sunlight.

"You looked like you were waiting for me," Hima noted, she was a redhead with yellow eyes. Today she was wearing a sweater and jeans, Sakura was never sure how she had an almost infinite amount of sweaters. Each seemed different from the last, they looked at the stars like a splash of silver across the night sky.

"How are you so calm?" The question came spilling out, Hima was going to earth with Sakura in the summer portal, Sakura was confused by how calm and sunshiney Hima was by the situation. Sakura got less sleep the closer she was to the day the 16-year-olds went to earth. Himawari seemed to get more sleep, Sakura was shocked.

"Huh? Oh, I guess it's because I'm a sunflower spirit..." Hima said back, she didn't look too comfortable about the subject of the conversation, so Sakura quickly changed the topic.

A bit later

Sakura was in bed, still thinking about the response from Himawari. "Why wasn't I something more useful, like I dunno- a sunflower spirit?" Slowly, Sakura drifted into sleep, wondering why she was a stupid cherry blossom spirit.
