Hey Everyone!
I wanted to let everyone know that this was an original work that I wrote on FanFiction that I brought over to Watt Pad. (I have proof that this is my personal story if anyone is concerned.) I changed the names of the places, characters, and anything that would connect it directly to the show it was based on. I did this because I was afraid of having my original work that I started writing in 2012 copied.
And you'll never guess what I found... the beginning of my story copied on another users account. I was shocked to stumble across the same title of my story, then start reading it and realize that it was my story. They did make slight changes, but keeping the idea of the story -- down to the exact wording of my first chapter. While I am flattered to have my story admired enough to be copied, it still is plagiarism. Unfortunately, the user also copied a couple other stories from the same FanFiction page, and I reached out to those writers as well to let them know about their copied stories.
It's just unfortunate to have someone copy your writing that you worked so hard on. Even if it was garbage...which don't worry, I will be rewriting this whole story to make it flow a little better and wrap it up. (I hate unfinished stories.)
Fortunately, I have been in enough situations to know that if you want to call someone out for something like plagiarism, you must collect evidence. So I've screen shot plenty of evidence to prove that multiple stories on the users account were copied (stolen) from other writers.
While the ideas in this story are common, and even cliche, the words that I have written and the dialogue are all mine. If you are wanting to copy an idea from a story, check copyrights and make sure that you aren't going to get in trouble for stealing ideas/content.
After being frustrated, upset and going through a range of different emotions, I figured I'd give the user a chance to explain and possibly update their story before I have a chance to report. Maybe they will delete it before they steal another chapter of my story, but I will definitely be watching. Hopefully they right their wrongs.
