Fight or Flight

Did you know that there are more fear responses than just fight or flight? They are called the 4F's, Fight, Flight, Freeze, or Fawn. The first three are rather self explanatory but what is Fawn you might ask? Well that is me... I am a fawn... Fawn is when you get overly nice and try to appease the person who is causing this fear response in your body. For example... one time, I was home alone and using the restroom as one does, and I hear my dad come into the house. I was a bit confused because he was home early an he is never early but I didn't think to much about it. He went into my room, then my sister, then the office, then back to my room looking for something though I wasn't sure what, so I finish up and open the door about to ask what he is looking for only to realize, it is not my dad... there is some random guy just standing there staring at me. So now is when any sane person would scream, or run, hide, but no. My stupid self decided to act like I worked behind the counter at a Chick-Fil-A and look at him and say "Hi! What is your name?" let me tell you the look of confusion I received at that moment is one I will never forget. I follow this with a "Why are you in my house?" When I still received no response and more strange looks I proceeded to ask "Umm... Would you please leave?" to which he said "OK?". So me being the polite idiot I am walked him to the front door, held it open for him, and proceeded to wave goodbye and say "Have a great rest of your day!" as I closed the door behind him. Sadly, this is not my only instance of being overly polite in the face of danger. A few years back I was walking into a building when a random man decided to attack me... he was throwing rocks and kicking me, hitting me when he could, I continued to walk away and simply turned to him and asked, in that overly polite voice, "Could you not please?" and kept going. So that my friends is a fawn... I hope I made you laugh and taught you something new!
