Love at Gunpoint

Chapter 10

"SHIT!" exclaimed Kartik. "We have to get out of here NOW!" he told Sid.

"What happened?" asked Sid. He was pretty sure their plan was full proof, so there was no reason to run hiding their faces.

"No time for explaining, go separate ways take her" said Kartik pointing towards Sasha. "Meet me at the two black cars which are a few blocks away from the hotel nearby," saying this, Sid took off with Sasha. On the other hand, Kartik grabbed Naira's wrist and linked his hand with her.

"Better play along, princess" he whispered in her ear. Naira shivered and nodded and walked with him expecting the worst.

Kartik was pleased with the look on Naira's face, bashful and nervous. Both pairs walked their way out of the party following different paths with the same destination in mind. When they exited the hall, they saw two police cars with their sirens blaring. Kartik's eyes widened, and his grasp on Naira's hand loosened. How and why did they get here?

Kartik and Sid exchanged a bewildered look.

Naira and Sasha shared a meaningful look.

Taking advantage of Kartik's lack of concentration towards them,

they carefully took one step back

and then another,

then a couple more.

They both winked at each other and then they were on the run!

The rush of wind near them made them whirl around. Their jaws dropped. Both of the girls were running aimlessly on the road.

Sasha and Naira held their hands together and were running towards their destination, an unknown destination. Their hearts were throbbing so hard that their breaths were shallow and uneven. A wave of adrenaline hit them. Goosebumps erupted all over their hands. They kept on running as the cool wind hit them and stars lit up the night sky. They didn't have time to admire the beautiful sky; they were on a run from murderers.

"Just keep following the girls and keep a good distance between you and them, I will see you on the other side" Kartik said before Sid could react.

"According to the plan I just made up, they are falling right into the trap," Kartik said nonchalantly.

Sid just stared at him in confusion but seeing the serious look in Kartik's eyes he started running.

Kartik went around the building of the hotel and took the shortcut. He knew exactly where the girls were heading, even if the girls themselves didn't know.

Naira looked back to see a dark and empty road, and pulled Sasha back. "There is no one behind us. I think we managed to run away." Hearing this, Sasha turned around too. Both of the girls were relieved. "Phew! That was really scary. Thank god we escaped." Sasha said, and then she looked towards Naira. They both looked at each other and then burst out laughing. Why were they laughing? Even they didn't know.

But just then, Sasha noticed Naira lost in deep thoughts. "What happened?" she asked Naira.

"I am really grateful that we got away, but..." She replied.

"But what?" Sasha asked when she didn't continue.

"I was just thinking if he could kill Sebastian without any regret, killing other people wouldn't be a big deal for him. Lord knows how many people he killed. I mean, what happened to me was really bad. But, now I realize that this world has a lot of heartless and cruel people in it," she said.
