“Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.” -Albert Einstein

Saturday was the official mark of the end of an era. Why you ask? Let’s paint a picture to better explain.

Nicholas Kincaid was sitting in his room watching TV, normal.

He was watching Pretty Little Liars, sort of normal.

He had done nothing productive all day, very normal.

He had no plans to do anything productive for the rest of the night, also very normal.

He was doing all this on a Saturday, normal.

Samantha was not there, not normal.

For the first time in the history of their friendship (barring when they both got the flu in the seventh grade and were too sick to see each other, and even then they talked on the phone), Samantha and Nick were not hanging out on a Saturday.

Then again, this was not the first time in the history of their friendship. Because really, there was no history of their friendship because their friendship no longer existed. The history itself is relative.

But either way, Nick was watching a teenaged girl’s show by himself and wondering what Samantha was doing. He was pathetic. So he decided to be extra pathetic and call Tobias. Tobias had to understand Nick’s pathetic-ness.

Three voicemails later, Tobias finally picked up.

“Hello?”

“Tobias?”

“Nick?”

“No, it’s you from the future.”

“Don’t bullshit me Kincaid,” Tobias said.

“Never my love.”

“My love? Wow you’re lonely.”

“I’m always lonely without you,” Nick retorted.

“I knew it.”

“Wanna hang out?”

“It’s Saturday.”

“And?”

“You hang out with Samantha on Saturdays,” he said.

“Not anymore.”

“Not anymore? You’ve been friends with Samantha since like the first grade and every Saturday except for that week during seventh grade you have hung out. Even in elementary school you guys would at least have a playdate.”

“Do you have a point?” Nick asked.

“Why are you not hanging out with her now? What the hell happened?”

“Samantha and I aren’t friends anymore.”

“What!”

“You heard me.”

“I don’t understand,” Tobias said.

“Samantha and I are no longer friends. What’s left to understand?”

“But, uh… One second.” The call cut off for a second and Nick could hear Tobias talking to someone, almost arguing. He figured he must be hanging out with Meredith. He was shocked that Meredith didn’t already know.

“Tobias?” No answer.

“Tobias, stop talking to Meredith and talk to me please. I’m the pathetic and sad one, remember?” There were rustling sounds and then Tobias was back on the line.
