Pacing around in front of the door, I was nervous. My aunt had acted like the mother that I never had but she was keeping something from me. I inhaled deeply, calming myself. I knocked on the door, hearing shuffling behind it before the door had finally opened. Her face looked ecstatic to see me, until she saw mine.

"We need to talk." I demanded, rather than asking. She gave me a face of sorrow and knowing, she knew what I was here for.

"Come in dear." I walked in, eyes gazing around the house I basically grew up in. I missed it here, but my mouth remained shut as I took a seat at the table.

She was tense, the air around us very thin as it was silent for a couple of minutes.

"I don't want to hear any more lies, auntie. I want to know what really happened to my parents, who I really am."

Fidgeting with her fingers she deeply inhaled and exhaled, "When your mother was a young girl, she got into some trouble with the wrong people. Her fiery personality attracted one of them, although they were both too stubborn to admit their feelings and kept fighting. Your mother had almost been killed on several occasions because of the knowledge she'd held, yet there was always one man that saved her, a bad man. Your father."

Pausing, she cleared her throat as if the information she was about to tell me was critical and life changing. She didn't dare look look me in the eyes, as if she was disappointed in the decisions that my mother had made.

"Your father was a part of The Five Families, which is a mafia group that ran through the whole world. They were the world, they were what the people depended on. They secretly pulled the strings behind the government, hell, they are the government. Anyone and everyone can be apart of The Five Families, they blend in easily. The Rivera family and the Somerhalder family got into heated arguments over your mother."

She took a sip of the water she had sitting on the table, as I simply listened remaining as collected as I could be after hearing all of this.

"They argued that she wasn't a part of the mafia that he couldn't marry her, your father argued back that it didn't matter. She would eventually become a part of the business but she was never the same, we all knew that. The mafia corrupted her turned her into the thing she swore to hate with her life. Despite all of that, the Somerhalder family still didn't agree. One night, they attacked your father and mother, held them captive for days. Until Kohl Somerhalder, the sick bastard told his son to kill your parents. A gunshot to the head, they were both found days later and that's when I got the news. At the time you were staying with me because your mom knew something was going to happen, she never tried to avoid death for she knew that if she did it would come after you."

I choked back my tears, this information filled the missing holes, but not the one in my heart. The one where I yearned for my parents and was jealous of those who had them. Swallowing my tears, I gritted my teeth.

"Which son was ordered to kill my parents?"

"The new leader of The Somerhalder family, Cain Somerhalder."

The deep rumble I felt boiling up into my stomach was nothing other than the craving for revenge or justice as you could say. It quickly disappeared when my aunt started speaking again.

"You weren't supposed to know until you hit 20. You are going to have to lead the Rivera family. Therefore you are going to have to be put through horrendous training, over, and over again."

"Wait wait wait," I put a connection together furrowing my eyebrows together. Although I wouldn't speak on it until it was confirmed. "The Five families names, what are they?"

"Alfonso, Rivera, Somerhalder, Hale, and Locke." Hale, Alex Hale—

"So Alex—"

"Alex is the brother of the head of the Hales, also known as Samuel Hale. Samuel told Alex to protect you and make sure you didn't figure out everything, falling in love with you wasn't supposed to be an option." She shut my question down quickly.

"How do you kno—"

"I'm the head of the Rivera family for now. Now, off with you." She said with a knowing smile and shooed me away, as if she was trying to avoid me from seeing people.

Leaving without protest, I ran into someone as I stepped out the door. Staring up into hazel eyes. The curly blonde locks fell around his face slightly, his facial features seemed to be very sharp. He almost looked like Cain Somerhalder. Stepping around him we lightly brushed shoulders, as I saw a woman get out of the car behind him. I wonder what they're doing here.— I could feel the females gaze upon my back as I heard her light whispers to her brother before I walked completely away. I've seen them before somewhere, but I couldn't really remember where.

As I got back to my apartment I discovered that Alex had come over as soon as I had gotten back home. The air between us was tense, or I had made it tense because I wasn't my happy self and didn't run up and give him a hug.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I broke through the silence with my own words, that were strained.

"Tell you what?" Alex's gaze turned to me.

"That you were apart of the Mafia and I'm supposed to be as well. You lied to me this whole time, our whole friendship—" Rambling on, I suddenly was stopped by lips pressed again mine. They were soft, vulnerable, and desperate.

I pushed him away, his eyes softened, and mine only hardened. "Get out, Alex."

"But Lena- I—"

"Get. Out." Anger replaced any other feelings in his eyes, his fists clenched as he stormed out my door, slamming it shut. I inhaled sharply, a soft exhale coming afterwards.

What am I supposed to do now?
