The girl sat on the top of the playset. Its fragile wooden joints whimpered under her weight, but she did not even blink. The swings moaned as they softly swayed in the warm night breeze. Her face glowed in the moonlight, delicate features creased with a frown. The girl shivered slightly, holding her sleeveless shoulders. Her fingers traced her freckled arms as she shifted into a more comfortable position. With her pale legs pulled against her chest, she breathed a sigh of tranquility with a hint of melancholy.

The girl's phone quietly buzzed, signaling the arrival of a text. Shifting once more, she pulled out her phone from the pocket of her sweatshirt and skimmed through the notifications. Her eyebrows furrowed and lips pursed as she held her forehead in her hands. Putting down her phone, she looked back up at the evening's darkening sky, once again contemplating.

Miles away, another girl sat on her windowsill, looking up at the same sky, no doubt seeing the same moon. Her breaths were heavy but her eyes were bright as she gazed up and saw the beauty of the night sky. Her lips turned up into a hesitant smile, wishing upon a star. A brown curl fell out of her ponytail and in front of her eye. Not wanting to interrupt the peace of the midsummer's evening, she let it sit there. But the night was meant to be interrupted after all. Her phone buzzed eagerly, and the stillness of the air vanished as she pulled her phone out of her jeans pocket.

After opening her phone and looking for a few seconds, she groaned. She threw her phone onto her bed and took one last look at the royal blue sky. Taking a deep breath, she stood up and shuffled to her door before throwing it open. She did not look back once.

I have no idea where I'm going with this- I'm just putting down random thoughts...
