“Walk with me” she said while having this small smile and the deep looking gaze that always had its effect on his heart. Walking in the slightly chilly night. Arms linked. After a long while of silence he was about to ask a what, why, and if she was okay.

“do you ever feel at times that you’re suffocating? Like you are surrounded by nothing in the space and you can’t gulp any air in, however hard you tried” she had this bitter smile on her face and her hand tightened around his arm. he wasn’t a fool, he knew her motto. Never show weakness or break in front of people.

He put a hand on the one she had on his arm already and squeezed a little bit. He knew words won’t go through an aching heart, but actions will.
They kept walking for a little more then he stopped her and turned to face her. Touching her cheek tenderly. She didn’t want to break. She really didn’t but his touch was tearing apart her resolution. He saw it in her eyes. He saw how she so badly wanted to let go and give her heart out. He was at a loss of words seeing  all of her smiling happy images swirling fast in his mind. He so wanted to cover her with his body and soul and shed her from all the bad things in the world. Bad things that had made the strongest human he has ever met about to crumble to the ground from the weight she’s heaving on her chest.

They kept staring at each other’s eyes for a minute of what he felt like it was hours. She was the first to avert her eyes. And he knew that he lost it at that moment. he knew she built that wall again as fast as he saw it crumble down. “I-“  “hey do you think there would be any ice-cream shops open at this hour?”
“I….guess we can still find one at the corner, yeah” that forced smile on his face was the most he could show of his swelling heart.

A breath in. A breath out. Then acceptance. What has been and always will be the thing she needed most. That acceptance that made one appreciate the other.  The quiet smile returned to her face and the tiredness came to his. They continued on their little walk passing the said corner, not looking back and not knowing what’s to come. Still waiting for the day she learns to trust him.
