The next day we were in the van and on the road, heading all the way to Las Vegas Nevada. Apparently that's only a few minutes away from an old military base. That's where the operation is headed from.

"Are we there now?" Anna's kid whinned from the back seat. I slamed my hand on the stearing wheel.

"Anna..." I said with gritted teeth, "If you don't shut your kid up..."

"Syrin." She warned.

"Mommy! I'm bored. I'm Hungry!!"

"Anna."

"Fine." Anna finally caved. "Will, just play your games silently. Leave Syrin alone. She needs concentration to drive."

"How about I pull over, and the brat can spend some time in the back with Carter?" I say as a suggestion.

"YAY! Spend time with Carter!" William yelled in accitement. I pulled over on the side of the road. Evelyn was in the back so her and William switched. And we got back to driving.

Before we knew it, it was night time. And the only thing lighting our way was the headlights of our car. Carter spoke over the walkie talkie.

"The brats finally asleep." He said.

Anna picked up the walkie, "Don't call him that. He's too young. He doesn't understand what's going on."

"I always thought I was too young for this crap. But now I'm right in the middle of it." Evelyn had commented.

"Cause you have to be. You're the one they're all after."

"Once we get to Las Vegas we're getting a hotel room and leaving you to look after the kid."

"No Way!"

"You'll do it or else." I say with a harsh tone.

"Or else what?!" Evelyn snapped.

I sighed and put on a fake smile, "Or else I'll have no obligation to protect you anymore and turn you over to those damned mafia dogs once and for all."

She scoffed a little bit, "Fine." Was her simple answer.

I looked over to see Anna with her head on the window. She looked so peaceful whenever she was asleep. But you wouldn't want to wake her. She had a sort of evil look to her when she woke up. It was really scary. I laughed.

"What's so funny?" I heard from Evelyn in the back seat. My face stoned once again.

"Nothing. Why don't you go to sleep?"

"Could ask you the same think."

"You won't."

I heard her scoff once again. And looking in the distance I saw lights of all sorts.

"Seems we're closer to Las Vegas than I thought."

We drove through the city and ended up at the lotas hotel. The desk lady looked at us.

"So, is this your younger sister?" She asked. I nodded my head.

"Yes. Can we have two separate rooms? Or uh, conjoined rooms please?" I asked. The lady looked at me confused. "We have three more people in our party. Two beds per room please."

"Sure. Why not? How many nights?"

"5-6 days."

"Okay. That's $900.00." She said with a smile. My face grimmed. 900?! I gave her the money and asked if a bag boy could help us get our stuff to the room. She sent one out.

He helped get the suitcases full of carters equipment, and he even asked to carry the backpacks of clothes up. I refused him and said I and Evelyn will take those. Although, I did joke about asking him to carry the two sleeping stogies in. Carter just woke up William and carried Anna in. Once we were in the room, I told Evelyn to take William to the room next door. The two kids then went to sleep and Carter set Anna down onto one of the beds. Me and him then proceeded to set up his computer equipment on the table.

"Get started on researching the area around our target." I say with a cold expression.

He looked at me and groaned, "Syrin... You can't expect me to work every second of the day."

"I can and I do. Get to work."

"Syrin..."

"What?" I snapped. He sat down at the table.

"Just..." he paused. "Nevermind. You know how to work my set up, you do the work. I'm going to sleep."

That was all he said before he climbed into the vacant bed. There goes my plans to sleep tonight. Not like I could anyway. Guess the instinct to always stay alert is too strong. I've had it for a while. Thanks for that Mrs. L. I went over to the window and looked out upon the city. It's weird... Everytime I see a city in my sights, below me... I feel as though I need to protect it. It's a character flaw. Whenever there is something I've deemed weak or something that needs help, I need to save it. I need to protect it. That's what happened with Evelyn. A girl who comes from the same background as me. At least... I assume. Otherwise why would she have been in at the worlds end.

"Are you still up?" I asked. I heard a sigh from behind me.

"How did you know I was here?!" Evelyn yelled in her quietest voice. I laughed.

"The floor boards are creaky and there's a distict sound everyone makes when they shuffle across the carpet." I explained, "And on top of that, you're really loud."

"Jeez, can't drop the assassin thing for a second." I didn't respond. She looked at me and then the table. "Sorry. I'll leave you alone. If your busy."

"Evelyn."

"Yeah..."

I turned to face her, "You do realize that there is a good chance we won't be coming back alive from this mission."

"Yeah." She crossed her arms, "I know. I'll take care of Will. Don't worry. You can tell Anna he'll be safe. I pro-"

"That's not what I want you to promise." She looked at me with confusion. It was written all over her face.

"Then, what is it?"

"Promise me... that if we don't make it back..."

"Syrin...? What's wrong...?"

"Promise me..." I was hesitant to say this. "Promise me you'll run. Forget about me, forget Anna, even Will. And just run."

She looked at me for a while. I could tell she was considering what I just said. She then straightened out and held her head high.

"I promise..."
