GQ Australia - Part 3

Being scared is a good thing right? It means it matters. Funny how 5 seconds ago I was confident thanks to John but now? Now I have Jo's dad in front of me and I feel like a 5 year old hiding behind my moms legs except I don't have my mom with me, I have Jo's dad looking at me waiting for me to say something.

"S- Sir. Hi, I'm Hero. We- We've talked a few times on the phone?"

Amusement all over his face "You okay over there son? I didn't know you were coming to visit."

"Ah, yeah, sorry, maybe I should've called? I really wanted to surprise Jo, this was a last minute decision I didn't really think the whole thing through."

Laughing, he says "A surprise is a surprise, relax. It's a pleasure to meet you. I was thinking this day would never come."

"Right, it's a pleasure. I'm sorry, I'm just really nervous, I've never been in a position like this, I've never really had to meet a girls parents, and now I'm thinking maybe this was too impulsive because this is something that shouldn't be a surprise right? I should've talked to Jo before and now I've met you and your neighbor and -"

He closes the front door behind him and puts his arm around my shoulder "C'mon son, let's go for a walk before I lose you to my daughter. So, you've met John? How did that go?"

"Well, it was very unexpected, he said we'd see each other again tonight, he's a good man, intimidating but I think he likes me a little now." I try to say with a laugh.

"He's one of the best people I know, the girls love him. Whenever there was a party he'd always play with them and they'd have the time of their lives. If he likes you there's no reason for me not to like you." He stopped for a minute before continuing. "You're a good guy Hero, my daughter is the happiest she's ever been even when she's missing you miserably. You coming here, even without her knowing, means the world to her, she'll absolutely love to see you. Almost like you're the only thing she talks about." - We start walking back to the house when he speaks again. "So, a surprise. I'll go in and see if she's still in the backyard, and I'll make sure she's there alone, I'll explain everything to my wife, you can meet her later."

"Oh, thank you! That'd be great." 

"Alright, wait here a minute, I'll come get you."

He walks in the house and leaves me outside. I'm sure it's only been a minute but it feels like ages before he comes back. When he tells me to come in I realize how ridiculous I must look with a box of chocolate and the flower bouquet in hand.

"I wanted to get you something but I had no idea what to buy, I'm sorry."

"Don't worry about that, the best gift you can give me and my wife is our daughters happiness. Now go on in, just walk through those doors and you'll see her by the pool, I'm pretty sure her eyes are closed but I don't think she's asleep. I'll be inside, Jo can come find us after."

After thanking him he leaves and I start to calm down, I was expecting the opposite but I'll take it without complaining. As I walk closer to the door I see her there, laying in her towel and a smile immediately appears on my face. I watch her for a few seconds before making my way over to her.

I don't wanna scare her, she looks so peaceful laying on her belly with her headphones in. I gently start stroking her hair and it doesn't take her long to turn around but she doesn't open her eyes immediately. 

"What" She asks.

"I was hoping for you to be a little more excited, I even brought your favorite chocolate and flowers." 

It didn't take her one second to realize what was going on, she opened her eyes, looked at me and just in seconds she jumped to hug me and we were both on the floor.

"Wha- what are you doing here? I can't believe this, Hero, I've missed you."

We're still on the floor so I get up without letting her go, Jo having her legs around my waste, I'm pretty sure this is one of the best moments of my life. "I couldn't stay away, I missed you too much and just wanted to come see you."

"I- Wait. How did you get in? When did you plan this? You asked for my address just last night, how did you-?"

"Love, you're asking too many questions" I say chuckling and put her down, we sit next to each other. "After you called the other day I couldn't stay away anymore, I looked for a flight and surprisingly I found one at a really good price. Oh, I must say, people around here are very, hm, interesting. I met your neighbor John and you dad."

"YOU WHAT? Don't laugh at me."

My Jo being her dramatic self. "You know, the world is a very small place. I got a taxi from the airport to here and John happened to be the driver, I don't remember sweating that much in my life and don't even get me started on your dad, I must have looked like a baby at the door, couldn't even talk."

"Let me guess, they loved you."

"You know it baby, there's no way to not like this face."

"Funny. I really did miss you, thank you for coming here." She leans over and gives me a quick kiss.

"I love you. Now, take me to meet your mom."

We both stand up and head inside the house holding hands.

So, I'm back!!  But I really need your help. I decided to write 1k words for this chapter just to get back into the story. Do you want longer chapters, shorter? And how many updates would you like per week or month?
